Historia
The crucifixion and resurrection of Christ are central events in our salvation. Yet few Christians have a good grasp of the first-century historical and religious context in which the crucifixion took place, nor of its true significance for the people of that time - and hence for our time as well. Biblical scholar and attorney Dr. Jeannie Constantinou puts modern listeners in the center of the events of Christ's Passion, bringing the best of modern scholarship to bear while keeping her interpretation faithful in every particular to the Orthodox tradition.

Might be the best book I've ever heard on audible.

The Crucifixion Of The King Of Glory by Eugenia Scarvelis Constantinou, PHD
I was given an audible copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. The book is long, about 15 hours on audible and pretty academic. It’s not an easy weekend read, in my opinion. But, I would recommend it to anyone wanting to get a better understanding of the cross or someone looking for a good Lenten reading.
The first section of the book was a bit challenging for me to get through as it was mostly focused on the history of the Jewish customs. But, it was necessary to lay the ground work so I encourage you to press on if you find yourself struggling.
The last section of the book walks you through every step Jesus went through from the last supper on. It was great to read as we were approaching Holy Week in the church. I feel like I will now have a greater understanding than ever before as I attending the services. Dr. Jeannie went to great lengths to take you through the process and explain actions of the people around him. I found my heart aching so many times as she explained the horror and pain Jesus accepted for us. He laid down his life for us, it wasn’t taken from him. How moving this is! This quote from Augustine that Dr. Jeanie quoted gave me chills,“While Christ, the second Adam was asleep on the cross, his bride, the church was formed from his side. “
I HIGHLY recommend reading this book during lent and especially as you draw closer to Holy Week and ultimately Pascha. 10/10

Historia
Speaking to non-believers and believers alike, Fr. Andrew Stephen Damick attempts to create a sacred space in which we can encounter God. In this compact volume, he distills the essence of the traditional Christian faith, addressing the fundamental mysteries of where God is, who God is, why we go to church, and why Christian morality matters. If you’ve only heard about the Protestant or Roman Catholic version of Christianity, what he has to say may surprise you—and make you long to encounter God in Jesus Christ.

An Introduction To God by Father Andrew Stephen Damick.
Revisado: 11-09-21
Father Andrew had authored many books in his time as priest but this is his first published by Ancient Faith. He recently recorded it on audible so I was asked to review it. I was thrilled when I heard that it was on audible because as a busy mom I struggle to find the time to read. This book was an easy listen, just a little over 3 hours, while also being very thought provoking. “An Introduction To God” the title reads, my thoughts were that I already knew God so I wasn’t sure what kind of benefit this would be for me. However, as I started listening I quickly realized that I still had much to learn about encountering God. Sure, as an orthodox Christian (and an avid listener of his (and Father Stephens) Lord of Spirits podcast) I already knew some of the things discussed here. The ending of the book may be what stuck with me the most. When he asks if you have experienced God and gives examples. His examples hit me to my core.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking into orthodoxy, looking to pursue a deeper more meaningful relationship with God or someone who doesn’t believe at all. You will gain something from this book.

Historia
The 20th-century elder Abba Matta of Egypt, known in the West as Matthew the Poor, is widely regarded as the greatest Egyptian elder since St. Antony the Great. This series constitutes the first appearance in English of a selection of the informal talks Abba Matta gave to his fellow monks and to visitors. In simple, accessible language, he addresses subjects ranging from scripture to the church year to everyday life in the world. To hear these talks is to sit at the feet of one of the greatest spiritual teachers of our age.

Words for Our Lives
The spiritual Words of Matthew The Poor
Volume two
This book was given to me to listen to on audible in exchange for a review. Matthew the poor comes from a time very near to ours and while a monk, he gives practical advice anyone can take away. Some of his teachings was dry for me but I must admit my spiritual life is not like those of a monk or that of a pious layperson. Alas, I am working to grow and this book helped show me some of the plank in my eye, if you will.
Matthew the Poor speaks of how important the reading of the psalms and the bible in its entirety, are to your spiritual life. This has really encouraged me to work on picking up my bible and finding more time for God. Definitely more than I had been giving to him, shame on me.
I think this book is perfect for the person looking to go deeper into their faith and relationship with God. He pushes the monks, as that is who he is speaking to mostly, to live their life the very best by following God closely. Achieving this mostly by loving the scriptures and reading them constantly.
So, in conclusion, if you are looking to grow closer to God and are looking for wisdom from someone much wiser than I, than this is your book!

Captivating and uplifting
Revisado: 05-31-19
The Scent of Holiness was given to me in exchange for a review. My husband and I decided to listen to it while we on a trip. While driving back the drive is usually never ending but while listening to this audiobook we felt as though our car was floating along and the drive was so easy.
This book was a great renewal for my husband and myself. The stories the author shared about the nuns and stories surrounding the people who visited were inspiring. I experienced goosebumps on more than one occasion.
Also, it has really encouraged my husband and I to plan a pilgrimage to a monastery as soon as we are able. We want our children to see the lives of monastics and we want to just be in the presence of such holy people. To experience a place full of prayer and innocence. To take time away from our busy lives and simplify it, even for a time.
I can not recommend this book enough to all my friends and I will be listening to it over and over again. Especially when I am needing a spiritual boost.
