Interesting story with unique twist
Revisado: 06-26-23
I enjoyed this audible…story was interesting and I liked the changes of past and present story telling. While it was a little predictable, I still really enjoy story.

Alchemist I AM Not
Revisado: 02-23-23
Knowing very little about alchemy and the world of mountain climbing, that part was most significantly interesting. The mystery was good, and kept my attention to the end. 2 or 3 times I thought I knew who was the killer, only to change my mind as I read/listened. If you are a hard core murder mystery person you might find the story a bit lacking. However, I found it interesting and a good read/listen. Pretty sure I will never be climbing in the Himalayas…but I felt like was when reading.

Stanley Tucci grew up in an Italian American family that spent every night around the kitchen table. He shared the magic of those meals with us in The Tucci Cookbook and The Tucci Table, and now he takes us beyond the savory recipes and into the compelling stories behind them. Taste is a reflection on the intersection of food and life, filled with anecdotes about his growing up in Westchester, New York.

Who doesn’t love Stanley Tucci
Revisado: 01-11-23
I enjoyed the reading and so glad it was self read by Mr Tucci. It is a thoughtful biography that is intertwined with a cookbook, and really is a tribute to family, friends and food.
The only reason U didn’t give it 5 stars (deserves a solid 4.5) is I wanted MORE. Mr Tucci, I believe you have more to say about your personal struggles within the industry and possibly more to say about food and refuge. Thank you for a delightful read/listen.

Historia
With nearly a century of life behind her, Stella Levi had never before spoken in detail about her past. Then she met Michael Frank. He came to her Greenwich Village apartment one Saturday afternoon to ask her a question about the Juderia, the neighborhood in Rhodes where she’d grown up in a Jewish community that had thrived there for half a millennium. Probing and courageous, candid and sly, Stella is a modern-day Scheherazade whose stories reveal what it was like to grow up in an extraordinary place in an extraordinary time—and to construct a life after that place has vanished.

Another Story that MUST be heard
Revisado: 01-01-23
Holocaust survivor stories should always be told and listened to. This one offers more than just a story of survival, but also life lessons, a tribute to a community, and an insightfulness that can be treasured. The reader is ok…. But could have and should have been read with a bit more emotion. Just a little too monotone for a passionate novel. Otherwise a very good “read.”

For Everyone Who Thinks They Know Love
Revisado: 11-30-22
I really enjoyed this book. Not only was it entertaining, but also made me really think about what love us and does it always have to be romantic? Beyond the stories of Evelyn and her rise to stardom are deep meaningful love stories. Some “normal,”some intense and some short and some long. Many served a purpose, but I’ve made me think about the true deepness of love. What we are willing to sacrifice for our love of another. In the end…Love is love, all of it in all its forms makes our lives meaningful.

Survival for Ki Lim and Sang Ly is a daily battle at Stung Mean Chey, the largest municipal waste dump in all of Cambodia. They make their living scavenging recyclables from the trash. Just when things seem worst, Sang Ly learns a secret about the ill-tempered rent collector who comes demanding money - a secret that sets in motion a tide that will change the life of everyone it sweeps past.

A Must Read
Revisado: 11-10-22
This novel should be read by everyone. The story reminds us what we often see on the surface of humanity is often just dirt that hides a diamond, and once the layers of dirt are removed a rock of brilliant light is discovered.
I enjoyed this novel and the reading so much I listened again.

Historia
Lucy Barton is a writer, but her ex-husband, William, remains a hard man to read. William, she confesses, has always been a mystery to me. Another mystery is why the two have remained connected after all these years. They just are. So Lucy is both surprised and not surprised when William asks her to join him on a trip to investigate a recently uncovered family secret—one of those secrets that rearrange everything we think we know about the people closest to us.

Whine whine whine
Revisado: 10-10-22
Maybe I am in the minority here, but while it was an interesting look into relationships and this one authors in particular… if I heard “Oh, William” one more time I was gonna scream. I get it, it’s the title but Jeeze….
Narration was very good, how many nuances can you put to the phrase “Oh, William?” She did great!
Glad this book was not any longer. Decent short read/listen. Just enough with the “Oh William.”

New York City, 1899. Tillie Pembroke’s sister lies dead, her body drained of blood and with two puncture wounds on her neck. Bram Stoker’s new novel, Dracula, has just been published, and Tillie’s imagination leaps to the impossible: the murderer is a vampire. But it can’t be - can it? A ravenous reader and researcher, Tillie has something of an addiction to truth, and she won’t rest until she unravels the mystery of her sister’s death.

Good Mystery with a Twist
Revisado: 10-06-22
An enjoyable mystery with a gruesome dive in to the land of opium, vampires, news paper sensationalism, family secrets, and yes…romance. I loved the character development and change of the heroine through the story. Anyone in substance recovery could find the book triggering, or perhaps laughable? Perspective is everything. Bottom line, I enjoyed the book and recommend.

New perspective on post WW2
Revisado: 10-06-22
I really enjoyed this novel and the reading. It was an interesting view of post WW2 that is often forgotten. The relationships in the book feel real and not contrived. The story flows with a few twists, but over all an enjoyable and educational read.

Bad Girl Gone Good
Revisado: 04-23-22
I enjoyed this story and the several twists it takes. It gave a very fresh perspective of how one recovers after a life of foster homes, and the strength of mothers. How the longing for a family love is deeply in bedded in us all, and forgiveness in all its forms is strong medicine to heal battered souls.
