Historia
The Unbreakable Child, a story about forgiving the unforgivable, is a riveting journey inside the secretive underbelly of the St. Thomas / St. Vincent Orphan Asylum in rural Kentucky. It is the first book in the United States to confront the institutionalized physical and emotional abuse suffered by countless orphans at the hands of Catholic clergy over these last decades.

I do not recommend.
Revisado: 04-24-25
While the general subject matter is excellent and has so much potential, the book is very poorly written. It seems as if the author is working out her own issues. The "story-line" somewhat erratic and not well developed. I wanted to like it but frankly I do not recommend it.

Iris knows she’s adopted, but any questions about where she came from have always been shut down by her parents, who can’t bear to revisit the past. Don't waste your time.
Revisado: 10-29-24
Before I started this book, I had just finished another book by the same author. I thought it was mediocre at best, but wanted to give the author the benefit of the doubt so started this book. I am halfway through and I can't even finish it. My opinion: Don't waste your time on this book with so many other good books out there. It's not well written. It's very elementary. The performance of one of the characters is hard to listen to.

Just okay. Love WW2 historical fiction and there are many great books out there. Unfortunately, this is not one of them. Not well written - very elementary. Plot not well thought out. Giving it the benefit of the doubt, I just started another book by this author. I am halfway finished, and frankly, I just can't get through the rest of it. Don't waste your time with this book. There are too many others that are so much better.

From 1915 to 1970, this exodus of almost six million people changed the face of America. Wilkerson compares this epic migration to the migrations of other peoples in history. She interviewed more than a thousand people, and gained access to new data and official records, to write this definitive and vividly dramatic account of how these American journeys unfolded, altering our cities, our country, and ourselves.

Historians have long told the story of America’s birth as the triumph of Jefferson’s democratic ideals over the aristocratic intentions of Hamilton. Chernow presents an entirely different man, whose legendary ambitions were motivated not merely by self-interest but by passionate patriotism and a stubborn will to build the foundations of American prosperity and power.

Love the book, don’t like the narrator.
Revisado: 04-16-19
In my opinion, the narrator is overly and unnecessarily dramatic in his tone which comes across as pretentious and lacking objectivity - almost condescending at times. For me, this narrator’s tone detracts from a very well written book.
