Quite the brave tangent in the last quarter.
Revisado: 05-14-24
Great writing, and the narration was solid. The storyline was captivating but there is a HUGE left turn 80 percent of the way through.
A lot of readers may not like it, and I was skeptical when it was being bled into the naritive, a required a bit of patience. Overall, it was a unique amd creative way to turn the tables and it was pulled off admiringly by the writer. Definitely going to explore other titles by tje author, and the narrator.

Historia
There’s a reason the History Channel has produced hundreds of documentaries about Hitler but only a few about Dwight D. Eisenhower. Bad guys (and gals) are eternally fascinating. Behind the Bastards dives in past the Cliffs Notes of the worst humans in history and exposes the bizarre realities of their lives. Listeners will learn about the young adult novels that helped Hitler form his monstrous ideology, the founder of Blackwater’s insane quest to build his own Air Force, the bizarre lives of the sons and daughters of dictators and Saddam Hussein’s side career as a trashy romance ...

Interesting guests and subjects, terrible host
- De Leah F en 02-22-22
Co-host is an absolute waste
Revisado: 10-26-21
Love this podcast, but the co-host reiterating all of these horrific behaviors of poisoned people harming themselves and laughing so hard you can barely understand him is disgusting. These citizens were poisoned with lsd as an experiment. Jumping out a window and breaking your legs..... Then sprinting isn't funny, and laughing at instances over and over about it is pretty abhorrent.

In the dead systems where gates lead to stranger things than alien planets, Elvi Okoye begins a desperate search to discover the nature of a genocide that happened before the first human beings existed and to find weapons to fight a war against forces at the edge of the imaginable. But the price of that knowledge may be higher than she can pay.

Exceptional, as always.
Revisado: 04-08-19
This saga never seems to stagnate, and always seems fresh with a good mix of grieving the youth of the characters as they grow old and change.
The narration is perfect. Audible? Never change that. You did once, and it went the way you would expect.... Badly.
Looking forward to the next book, and a little sad it will be a significant measure of time.

Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

Performance was very good, but carried by Simon
Revisado: 10-08-18
Good performance, Simon Vance carried the cast. Dune is a classic, but dated and Hebert was never one for consistent details around technology. Solid, but a weary experience.

The world of Dematr had been locked unchanging for centuries by the Great Guilds, most people living in a world of oil lamps, crossbows, and horse cavalry, the Mechanics reserving to themselves the technology for steam locomotives, rifles, and far-talkers while the Mages treated all others as if they were nothing - until Master Mechanic Mari, dragon slayer and pirate queen, and Master of Mages Alain raised the army of the new day to free their world.

Struggling with it.
Revisado: 09-17-18
Good performance, good story line, but a little emotionally ridiculous far too often.
This seems to have been written for am all age crowd, so if you like that Harry Potter style of literature then you will enjoy this. If you like more of a serious fantasy style you won't.
This was a difficult to finish at times, and I won't be looking at acquiring the rest of the series.

Revisado: 10-02-17
Second part of a magnificent story, and a great examination of human loss and achievements.
Berny Clark does a very good job, although I admit to preferring Simon Vance as per other titles from this author. If you read or listen to one of Guy Gavriel Kay's superb offerings, you will end up with all of them sooner than you think. (And eagerly awaiting new publications)

comprehensive and unapologetic.
Revisado: 03-21-17
A very detailed time line of the social phenomenon that was the Nazi leadership of WW2. Detailed and unapologetic, but accurate and horrifying at the same time. Due to the subject matter, this is best listened to in bite sized chunks, as the atrocities and lack of basic human decency tends to wear the listener down after 3 or 4 hours at once.

Historia
One of the iconic investigators of contemporary fiction, Arkady Renko - cynical, analytical, and quietly subversive - has survived the cultural journey from the Soviet Union to the New Russia, only to find the nation as obsessed with secrecy and brutality as was the old Communist dictatorship. In Tatiana, Martin Cruz Smith’s most ambitious novel since Gorky Park, the melancholy hero finds himself on the trail of a mystery as complex and dangerous as modern Russia herself.
