Historia
The summer in question started out with hot, fun-filled days and new friendships. We had just turned thirteen and had our whole lives ahead of us. But that was before her. Before we became known as the Hixton Five and our lives become defined by one night. It’s hard to believe twenty years have passed since she was locked away. But now she’s free and strange things have started to happen. When I close my eyes, the creeping anxiety and fear is overwhelming and all too real. Because the monster is back, and I know she has a score to settle with us.

I read this based on other reviews. I thought I had the twist figured out - I did not. I thought the first twist was THE one - it was not. I thought the big twist was the last one - it was not. Maybe you’ll read it and figure it all out, or maybe you’ll be like me and be in awe of the storytelling and the characters. What a satisfying book!!

I loved this book so much. Without giving too much away, it reminded me of Rosemary’s Baby and The Omen. I was obsessed with the characters from the start and really rooted for them throughout. You’ve gotta give this one a read!

Historia
For best-selling horror novelist Wilson Paventeau, the scariest novel of his career is the one he didn't write. It bears his name on the dust jacket and contains his bio near the end, but this enigmatic tome is not part of his oeuvre. And the most frightening thing about it may not be the tale between the covers, but the reason for its mysterious appearance in Paventeau's life.

Simply a cool story
Revisado: 05-30-23
It’s not too complicated, not too easy - this is just simply a cool story. It’s not too long and is entertaining, two things that I appreciate when I want a story but do not want to think too hard about.

Historia
Alex Green is a young girl in a world much like ours, except for its most seminal event: the Mass Dragoning of 1955, when hundreds of thousands of ordinary wives and mothers sprouted wings, scales, and talons; left a trail of fiery destruction in their path; and took to the skies. Was it their choice? What will become of those left behind? Why did Alex’s beloved aunt Marla transform but her mother did not? Alex doesn’t know. It’s taboo to speak of.

I loved this book! I don’t understand the criticism about the narrator - I heard no issues with them 🤷🏼♀️ I thought the narrator did a great job with each voice.
This book does have animal cruelty, something that I wasn’t aware of, so if you’re sensitive to this sort of thing, you might want to skip a few parts (the book itself is worth reading despite the cruelty IMO).

Historia
Suffering from writer's block, novelist Rachel Ames escapes to a lake cabin to calm her mind and regain a sense of herself. The location is perfect. Isolated. Beautiful. Inspiring. It even comes with a good-looking landlord who shows an interest in her. But she can't shake the sense that something terrible has followed her to the lake, something just beyond her consciousness, something out on the edge where the sounds of a raging fire and sirens linger whenever she slows down to listen.

This is not a feel good story by any means. It is quite sad but I loved every minute of it. The author does an excellent job of describing grief. I imagine if you are not personally aquatinted with grief, sorrow, and loss, this book will not resonate with you. It’s almost like if Alice in Wonderland met Shutter Island, and the two had a baby - that would be this book.
I also had no issues with the narrator. I don’t understand the criticism.
