Historia
Captain John "Black Jack" Geary's legendary exploits are known to every schoolchild. Revered for his heroic "last stand" in the early days of the war, he was presumed dead. But a century later, Geary miraculously returns from survival hibernation and reluctantly takes command of the Alliance fleet as it faces annihilation by the Syndics.
Appalled by the hero-worship around him, Geary is nevertheless a man who will do his duty. And he knows that bringing the stolen Syndic hypernet key safely home is the Alliance's one chance to win the war. But to do that, Geary will have to live up to the impossibly heroic "Black Jack" legend.

Loved the story and the plot. As a navy veteran I appreciated the details. The ship names were in line with what we can expect.

Who is standing next to you?
Revisado: 08-17-13
Would you consider the audio edition of Battle Ready to be better than the print version?
Yes. There are characteristics that can be lost when reading a book for the first time. Additionally, if you have not served in the military some terms and how they are communicated can be difficult to understand.
What did you like best about this story?
How it is explicit that as a veteran you can be vulnerable to your shortcomings and feelings.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes

Not the typical story.
Revisado: 08-17-13
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. This is not the typical story written about a hero. This isn't James Bond or Rambo. LT Murphy is a hero not just because of his actions in battle. He is a hero because of the lives that he touched and how he impacted them. If you are looking for a battle heavy book this is not it. If you are looking to understand what makes a hero then get it.
Who was your favorite character and why?
LT Murphy

Memories
Revisado: 02-06-13
What made the experience of listening to Love Me When I'm Gone the most enjoyable?
If you have ever served or wonder what it is like read this. Remember that no matter what our military is made up of people either like you or someone that you knew. As I read this it brought back many memories from my 14 years of service. Those were some awesome times. Yes things were not always (usually) the best. It was the brotherhood that kept me going.

Historia
Low-level entertainment lawyer Nick Carter thinks it's a prank, not an alien encounter, when a redheaded mullah and a curvaceous nun show up at his office. But Frampton and Carly are highly advanced (if bumbling) extraterrestrials. And boy, do they have news. The entire cosmos, they tell him, has been hopelessly hooked on humanity's music ever since "Year Zero" (1977 to us), when American pop songs first reached alien ears. This addiction has driven a vast intergalactic society to commit the biggest copyright violation since the Big Bang.

So that is how it took place.
Revisado: 08-11-12
Would you consider the audio edition of Year Zero to be better than the print version?
Interesting what the pivot point was that humanity was discovered. I loved the references to all the things we remember from the past. This book gives us the answer to why we have not advanced to flying cars and hover boards.

Historia
Present moment awareness is an essential ingredient in life if one expects to experience any degree of authentic peace and contentment. It has been acknowledged for centuries as the cornerstone of spiritual awakening in all traditions of Eastern thought. In the West, however, it is still a relatively unrecognized concept for living. The Western mind is always restless, never content with the moment.

Good information
Revisado: 01-09-12
Would you listen to The Practicing Mind again? Why?
I would listen again. This is because I just could not listen to the book continually during one sitting. I actually listened to two other books while trying to complete this book. Perhaps if I could read in sequence the information would make more sense and be a greater value.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Thomas M. Sterner?
Perhaps, if the narrator adjust reading style based on the material.
