Every American should read this book!

This is a fascinating and wide-ranging look at American and world history that more Americans need to be aware of. It holds up a mirror to our past and examines our accomplishments and mistakes as a nation. It even touches on the impact of music and mass culture after World War II. It's so full of information that I’m rereading it a second time, just to take it all in. Those who claim that it's wrong to criticize your own country should heed their own rhetoric and stop complaining themselves.

Interesting stories. Pretentious writing

The author uses words like "hither" and "thither," for no apparent reason. If he's trying to impress someone with that, it just doesn't work--and this is a book for kids? The author lost all credibility for me by writing that someone "ejaculated" words at someone. What's wrong with using "said" or "yelled" instead?

Doesn't meet its full potential

The author provides a unique approach to the fantasy genre, especially in terms of narration and religion. The reader does a fine job, providing different voices that make the main characters easy to recognize. Unfortunately, the story itself just kind of drifts along. I’d recommend this if you’re looking for something different, as a study in different writing approaches, but my overall impression is something of a shrug.
