Historia
Wise beyond his years, Brandon understands he's the only one in this world he can count on. It's an outlook that serves him well the day his mama leaves him behind at the Raleigh bus station and sets off to Canada with "her destiny" - the latest man that she hopes will bring her happiness. The day his mother leaves, Brandon takes the first step toward shaping his own destiny. Soon, he finds himself spending pleasant days playing with his cousins on his grandparents' farm and trying to forget the past.

Quite an emotional and yet redeeming story!
Revisado: 11-09-23
I loved the story line in the way the characters and story were so “could he 100% true - sad and amazingly beautiful true. The narrator was just so perfect and made it such a delight to listen to. The epilogue is a necessity to the story and truly completes one’s wandering thoughts. And- most redeeming is the thought that the little and big kindnesses we share may truly change someone’s life! Being honest and caring beyond your own needs is a blessing to others and right back at you - as the blessing of faith is also. I liked how the author wove in faith as being so integral and real and a true fall back to action and comfort for now and forever - yet how life tied to it is also a challenge and not the easy road at all. Please do listen to this story as you’ll feel like you’re living in it at every chapter! Obviously Brandon was an amazingly well developed character but Nanna and Poppy, Esther and AuntieGina were as well. The antagonist characters were also well developed enough to drive home - yep, some people are like that and yet - we don’t always blow up at them, but trust that it’s all going to “come out clean on wash day!”

Historia
Mrs. Harris is a salt-of-the-earth London charlady who cheerfully cleans the houses of the rich. One day, when tidying Lady Dant's wardrobe, she comes across the most beautiful thing she has ever seen in her life—a Dior dress. In all the years of her drab and humble existence, she's never seen anything as magical as the dress before her and she's never wanted anything as much before. Determined to make her dream come true, Mrs. Harris scrimps, saves, and slaves away until one day, after three long, uncomplaining years, she finally has enough money to go to Paris.

A must listen for so many reasons!!
Revisado: 09-27-23
If this isn’t an inspiring, reflective, lovely read I don’t know what is! It is, perhaps both slightly predictable but yet also contains unbelievable twists and turns and you simply can’t hardly put it down! (Or stop the car and get to work as one more minute is always needed!) Having both stories in one audio book is a special delight! Absolutely loved the stories, good book club discussion material, and the audio narration is absolutely perfect and easy to listen to! I often up from 1x to 1.5x for books but couldn’t for this as narration is too delightful and important to visualizing the story!

Campbell leaves behind the cold and damp of the oncoming Chicago winter to spend what he believes will be his last Christmas in the warm and welcoming town of Lost River. There he meets the postman who delivers mail by boat, the store owner who nurses a broken heart, the ladies of the Mystic Order of the Royal Polka Dots Secret Society.

Schmaltzy yet redeeming

This was a fun Christmas read. It was positive and happy with a fulfilling ending, slightly predictable and yet “hallmarkeque” happy.

Most excellent narration of a most excellent story
Revisado: 09-30-22
This is really a MUST read, all of it, epilogue and how this story came to be! It’s vivid descriptions are truly art and the history both hard to listen to and yet need to be listened to and retold. The strength of the heroes - so many heroes - are inspiring! Thank you to Lisa Wingate and all who narrated as this is art!

Historia
A successful LA artist, Roman Velasco appears to have everything he could possibly want - money, women, fame. Only Grace Moore, his reluctant, newly hired personal assistant, knows how little he truly has. The demons of Roman's past seem to echo through the halls of his empty mansion and out across his breathtaking Topanga Canyon view. But Grace doesn't know how her boss secretly wrestles with those demons: by tagging buildings as the Bird, a notorious but unidentified graffiti artist - an alter ego that could destroy his career and land him in prison.

Drawn into the story- couldn’t put it down

Felt myself praying for Gods wisdom much more as I listened to the story. Narration was very well done!
Although predictable, there were twists which made it a bit more realistic and applied to life more!

But for Elsa Wolcott, deemed too old to marry in a time when marriage is a woman’s only option, the future seems bleak. Until the night she meets Rafe Martinelli. By 1934, the world has changed; millions are out of work and drought has devastated the Great Plains. Elsa must make an agonizing choice: fight for the land she loves or leave it behind and go west, to California, in search of a better life for her family.

Absolutely a Book for These Times And ..
Revisado: 02-24-21
Absolutely so much to discuss at book club! Loved the character development, there were some unseen turns and surprises, learning about the Dust Bowl history, family dynamics and insights. Great historical fiction. Excellent narration for all characters! She is gifted! And .... do take the time for postlogue and the interview with author and narrator- both are excellent and worth the time. I highly recommend this audible book!

Historia
In Garner County, girls are told they have the power to lure grown men from their beds, to drive women mad with jealousy. That’s why they’re banished for their 16th year, to release their magic into the wild so they can return purified and ready for marriage. But not all of them will make it home alive. Sixteen-year-old Tierney James dreams of a better life - a society that doesn’t pit friend against friend or woman against woman, but as her own grace year draws near, she quickly realizes that it’s not just the brutal elements they must fear.

Worth every penny/credit Fully Immersed
Revisado: 08-02-20
The characters truly become alive and bring to
Light many things girls today and in all times
Go and have gone through. The society is eerily too close to some of the dystopia we have the n our world recently - and yet reading it brings to mind important historic lessons, what’s real and what’s superstition and what’s plain wrong. It’s also immensely important in teaching how to bring out your grasp of truth- not with fights and blaring loudness but with gentleness and patience. The narrator has theeee perfect voice and telling and the writer grabs you in at every turn, some you see coming and others blow you out of the water!
