Historia
Seven-year-old Wen and her parents, Eric and Andrew, are vacationing at a remote cabin on a quiet New Hampshire lake. Their closest neighbors are more than two miles in either direction along a rutted dirt road. One afternoon, as Wen catches grasshoppers in the front yard, a stranger unexpectedly appears in the driveway. Leonard is the largest man Wen has ever seen, but he is young, friendly, and he wins her over almost instantly. Leonard and Wen talk and play until Leonard abruptly apologizes and tells Wen, “None of what’s going to happen is your fault.”

Very repetitive
Revisado: 04-05-23
The story conceptually was fascinating, but I felt like the main tension-building device was repetition. Would have liked a bit more variety.

Shock Value
Revisado: 02-12-23
Reading this book reminded me of hanging out with a particular set of friends, strung out on drugs and saying/doing things for shock value. It was an interesting commentary on boredom, the need for attention, self-sabotage, and longing for love.

Raised good questions, gave general advice
Revisado: 12-31-22
I'm not sure what I expected picking up this book, but it didn't really speak to me. I especially didn't like the author saying to use shame and self-hatred to get yourself to do stuff. Also, some studies, like the Gallup strengths finder project, have found that it's good to focus on your strengths, not just spend all your time trying to fix your weaknesses.
I hope the people reading this will give themselves some grace instead of falling into the trap of "if you work hard enough and strategically, you'll be successful. "

Historia
On a warm March night in 2083, Judy Wallach-Stevens wakes to a warning of unknown pollutants in the Chesapeake Bay. She heads out to check what she expects to be a false alarm—and stumbles upon the first alien visitors to Earth. These aliens have crossed the galaxy to save humanity, convinced that the people of Earth must leave their ecologically-ravaged planet behind and join them among the stars. And if humanity doesn't agree, they may need to be saved by force. But the watershed networks that rose up to save the planet from corporate devastation aren't ready to give up on Earth.

delightful
Revisado: 11-28-22
A bit repetitive at times, but a delightful fantasy. I kept anticipating big plot twists that didn't come in the ways I expected. It's a straightforward story but still very enjoyable.

Things My Son Needs to Know About the World collects the personal dispatches from the front lines of one of the most daunting experiences any man can experience: fatherhood. As he conveys his profound awe at experiencing all the “firsts” that fill him with wonder and catch him completely unprepared, Fredrik Backman doesn’t shy away from revealing his own false steps and fatherly flaws, tackling issues both great and small, from masculinity and midlife crises to practical jokes and poop.

The performance was perfect for this story.
Revisado: 11-10-22
Short and sweet. The performance was superb, and the story, while cheesy, was endearing because of it.

Historia
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

Trevor Noah's story is intense. Such a powerful tale, and an amazing homage to his mother.
