What did you love best about Ghost?

The continuation of the Boston Underworld series - I loved how we got to learn what happened to Talia and I loved how characters I already knew and events I had already read about in the previous two books kept coming up. There were a couple of inconsistencies, but they were completely forgivable - I was reading it for the dark, erotic and delightful romance, not for the details.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Alexei, because he surprised me. The impression I had got of him from the cameos he has played in the previous two books was totally different to the Alexei we get to know in this book. For starters, I hadn't realised he was the 6ft 6" hunk of manliness that he appears to be. I liked him particularly for his weaknesses and flaws which never detracted from his alpha male personality.

Which character – as performed by Tracy Marks – was your favorite?

Even though he only plays a very small role, definitely Lachlan Crow. Tracy Marks's Irish accent is absolutely delicious. I could listen to it endlessly. But if I were to have to choose from the main characters, then you couldn't go wrong choosing Talia. Tracy Marks has the Boston accent down pat.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I loved it. I love all of the books in this series. More please!

Would you listen to Reaper again? Why?

Absolutely! In fact, I could easily have gone straight back to the beginning and started again. Perhaps even more than the first book in the series, this book is every woman's dream - a damaged but gorgeous alpha male lead, a sensible but sensual female lead, fights, near death experiences, misunderstandings, coming together, mafia violence, protective men and even babies! I don't think it could have been better.

As for the narrator, because I had had the pleasure of listening to the first book in the series, I knew what to expect from her. In fact, as soon as I saw this second book was narrated by Tracy Marks as well, I had to listen to it. Her switch between the Bostonian accent of Sasha and the Irish accent of Ronan was flawless and so true to life that I actually forgot she was narrating and felt like I was actually listening to the characters themselves. From the opening sentence, I felt like I had slipped back into something comfortable. I am so glad that Tracy Marks did this book too and I hope, when the third books comes out, she continues on.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Definitely Ronan - completely damaged, completely alpha and completely gorgeous. Of course, every woman who has a modicum of sense knows that men like Ronan don't really exist, but that doesn't mean we don't fantasise about them.

Which scene was your favorite?

Ronan's arrival in Sasha's apartment with a shopping bag full of various types of birth control. It was funny and gorgeous at the same time.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I don't think this is a laughing or crying book, but it is one that takes you on a roller coaster ride of pleasure. It is a bit corny at times and it isn't true to life, but that is what makes it a fabulous escapist romance.

What made the experience of listening to The Heart Thief the most enjoyable?

I was engaged with the story right from the very beginning. I can attribute that partly to the professionalism of the narrator and partly to the story itself. The mood of the whole book was dark and thrilling and the characters were great, in particular Ezra who was both likeable and believable. I really enjoy a teenage character who, as and adult, I don't feel alienated from. He had a maturity which meant I was sympathetic to him, but he was still very clearly a kid.

The narration was really good. I thought the narrator's use of accents was excellent simply because they were pretty true to life and didn't sound like they were put on. As such, it was really enjoyable to listen to.

Overall, this is an excellent book. It ends well, giving enough of a hint of where the next book might go, but still leaving you satisfied. Perhaps my only comment about the whole story was that the Leichtman's were a little too like The Addam's Family, but if you enjoy urban fantasy with a bit of gore and plenty of magic, you'll like this book.

What made the experience of listening to Trans-Siberian Express the most enjoyable?

I thought the narrator was excellent, with good pacing and excellent pronunciation of people and place names. Although there was a large cast of characters, not once did I get lost as to who was who. I really appreciated the fact the narrator didn't use accents as it meant that one could get completely absorbed in the story without the distraction of a changing voice.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the exploration of moral questions and the contrast the author drew between the different cultures, ideologies and beliefs. Although the book was originally written nearly 40 years ago, I didn't once feel it was dated. I though the author explored the characters motivations with sensitivity and intelligence, without ever taking sides.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I don't want to give any spoilers but the best scene for me was when the train inspector came to arrest the person who had attacked a train worker. The moment between Gordorov and Ginsburg was wonderful and just felt right.

What did you love best about Uncommon Purpose?

I loved the pace of the story and I loved the world building. I was really surprised at the direction it took after the first few chapters. There were hints of Star Trek, hints of Starship Troopers and hints of Ender's Game in this book which was really interesting.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Nathan was definitely my favourite character for his strength and purpose. I liked the way he grew and developed over the course of the story.

Have you listened to any of Keith Michaelson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I haven't listened to any before, but I will again. I thought the narrator handled the story and all of the characters incredibly well.

What did you love best about St. Charles at Dusk?

I loved finding out more about the characters which I have come across previously in this series. It was interesting to see where Oz and Adrienne had come from and how they had got together.

If you’ve listened to books by Sarah M. Cradit before, how does this one compare?

I didn't think it was as good as Illusions of Eventide. I really enjoyed the performance of the narrator in that one whereas I found the narrator a bit overdramatic in this story and so I couldn't take it as seriously. It felt as if every spoken exchange between every character was said on the verge of tears.

Have you listened to any of LC Kane’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, I haven't so it would be unfair of me to make any comparisons. I may do though as I really do want to continue listening to the series and I know this narrator does almost all of the rest of them.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Unfortunately no. I got a bit frustrated with it as the characters all seemed so wilfully blind to what seemed blatantly obvious to me. And all of the secrets and not talking began to get on my nerves. It was a suspenseful story, but maybe a bit too much drama?

Would you consider the audio edition of The Illusions of Eventide to be better than the print version?

I had both the Kindle and audio version and I finished the book primarily on audio as I thought the narrator was excellent. Her accent was just perfect, her pronunciations were really good and she made the story come alive. I'm not sure I would have got as much from it by reading it.

Which character – as performed by Kate Udall – was your favorite?

Definitely Nicholas - I thought Kate Udall did a fantastic rendition of him.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I think the ending was especially good, although it got there a little too quickly. So much happened in the last hour of so of the book that it was almost too much to take in.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

There was too much repetition, too much of the action was 'pre-ordained' or foretold by prophecy which actually took a great deal of the surprise out of it. It definitely needs to be read as fantasy rather than historical fiction, as so much of it defies belief. But the story is filled with tension and there is a good, strong heroine which is always a plus.

If you’ve listened to books by David Wind before, how does this one compare?

I haven't listened to any before.

What didn’t you like about Hollie Jackson’s performance?

Simply put, the book is set in England and all of the characters were English, and yet the narrator was American. Unfortunately, her attempts at an English accent resulted in everyone sounding like a bad copy of Joanna Lumley. And the cockney Druid Priestess was really awful.

Was Queen of Knights worth the listening time?

Yes and no. It wasn't a terrible story, but I think the performance let it down.

If you could sum up The Edge of Nowhere in three words, what would they be?

Tragic, compelling, fascinating

What other book might you compare The Edge of Nowhere to and why?

The Grapes of Wrath - because of the setting, the sadness and the spirit which the characters showed in each novel.

Which scene was your favorite?

The final scene, where Victoria took control of her marriage with Dale. My only complaint was that it was over too quickly.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A woman's survival against a hostile world

Any additional comments?

The narrator was excellent. Her accent was perfect for the character and her pace was just right. I did feel the book ended a bit abruptly - I wanted more and felt a bit cheated. But it was a really compelling story.

What made the experience of listening to Crow the most enjoyable?

The narration was fantastic. The narrator nails the Bostonian and Irish accents perfectly which made it a pleasure to listen to.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The actual premise of the story was really interesting and different. I don't know how factually accurate the picture of the Boston underworld was, but it was pretty convincing. I did find the main character, Mac, grated on my nerves a little as she made some really stupid decisions which seemed pretty obvious, but it was important for the trajectory of the story.

Have you listened to any of Tracy Marks’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I haven't.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I think the ending was particularly good, when Lachlan was faced with the decision about whether he should kill Mac or not.

Any additional comments?

There is a lot of sex in this story - it is undoubtedly an erotic romance. I wondered at times whether there was a bit much (was it even physically possible?) as sex seemed to be the default go-to in pretty much every situation. But it was still a great book to listen to.
