Historia
Born on a plantation in Charles City, Virginia, Pheby Delores Brown has lived a relatively sheltered life. Shielded by her mother’s position as the estate’s medicine woman and cherished by the Master’s sister, she is set apart from the others on the plantation, belonging to neither world. She’d been promised freedom on her eighteenth birthday, but instead of the idyllic life she imagined with her true love, Essex Henry, Pheby is forced to leave the only home she has ever known. She unexpectedly finds herself thrust into the bowels of slavery at the infamous Devil’s Half Acre.

Very detailed and captivating
Revisado: 08-11-24
The details in which the author inserted throughout the story was simply amazing. I appreciated the rich history that was included to make the story easier to imagine. I felt every emotion that the characters experienced. Their lives made me imagine what my ancestors went through during slavery. It encouraged me to keep bettering myself. I owe it to them for surviving the horrors of slavery so that I could be here today. Well done, Ms. Johnson.

Life Changing!!!
Revisado: 05-28-24
Sarah Jakes Roberts is such an amazing author who manages to teach and preach effortlessly in this book. This will not be my last time reading this book. I created an entire workbook for myself based on her "Flip the Switch" sections at the end of each chapter. As a new entrepreneur I learned some amazing things about who I am and who I have the power to be. She addresses how your mindset affects your outcome. There's so much packed into this book that is impossible to just read it once! Thank you Sarah for your labor of love!

Revisado: 07-31-23
If this were a paperback book, it would have been a page turner! I need another one! Joyce's sorry it's not over! The only thing I wished would've been revealed is Milton's trips to Ain't Mattie's brothel. O'Dell was just as dirty as Odell.

Historia
Dust Tracks on a Road is the bold, poignant, and funny autobiography of novelist, folklorist, and anthropologist Zora Neale Hurston, one of American literature's most compelling and influential authors. Hurston's powerful novels of the South - including Jonah's Gourd Vine and, most famously, Their Eyes Were Watching God - continue to enthrall readers with their lyrical grace, sharp detail, and captivating emotionality.

Omg, as a black person this was fil of negative thinking and ideas. Of course she was only reflecting on the times. Unfortunately some of it is still relevant. I love Hurston but the writing in this book is all over the place. I made myself try to finish it but I made it to the last hour and I just couldn't take it. I'll mark it as read. I doubt that I'm missing anything.

This book was even more amazing than I knew it would be. Toni's voice added to the journey that we took. The editing was a little off in placesbut it didn't take away from how absolutely amazing this book is.

Historia
On an island off the coast of Ireland, guests gather to celebrate two people joining their lives together as one. The groom: handsome and charming, a rising television star. The bride: smart and ambitious, a magazine publisher. It’s a wedding for a magazine or for a celebrity: the designer dress, the remote location, the luxe party favors, the boutique whiskey. The cell phone service may be spotty and the waves may be rough, but every detail has been expertly planned and will be expertly executed.

Slow moving and confusing
Revisado: 02-28-22
This book was so hard to finish but I was reading it along with a friend. I got too far in to quit. I was too invested. All in all this is a book that you can skip. The format of the storyline was too confusing to keep up with. There was so much back and forth between timelines that I kept getting lost. Save your money/credit. It wasn't worth it.
