You ladies did it again. I love listening to books based on real people. Of course I had heard of Mrs. Roosevelt and Mrs. Bethune but did not know of their friendship and progress that they made to propel our society forward. I would listen to this book again and highly recommend.

Perfection In Everyway
Revisado: 01-10-25
Love love love this book. I fell in love with Belle’s tenacious style and personality. She was a pioneer during a shameful time in our history where people of color were marginalized and excluded from society and oppressed. Belle was blessed with the opportunity of a lifetime. The authors who wrote this story really made her character come to life. We’ve all heard stories of people of color “passing” for white and other non black races. This story however was different and more definitive. I didn’t realize the danger that these brave people faced and the sacrifices they had to make to sometimes sever ties to family and always hide their true identity. This book touched my heart and I would highly recommend. I also have a strong desire to visit the Morgan Museum to see this piece of american history.

Historia
Born into slavery on the tiny Caribbean island of Montserrat, Doll bought her freedom from her Irish planter father and built a legacy of wealth and power as an entrepreneur, merchant, hotelier, and planter that extended from the marketplaces and sugar plantations of Dominica and Barbados to a glittering luxury hotel in Demerara on the South American continent. Vanessa Riley’s novel brings Doll to vivid life as she rises above the harsh realities of slavery and colonialism by working the system and leveraging the competing attentions of the men in her life
