Historia
A hero in the tradition of Jack Reacher, the Gray Man, and Mitch Rapp, Ty Stone isn't afraid to cross the line when the stakes are high enough and they're never higher than when a child is in danger. When a child goes missing from a busy interstate gas station, all leads point in the wrong direction. Ty Stone is afraid he's too damaged to help but his gut--and his conscience--won't let him sit this one out. Even as he's searching for the missing child, law enforcement is searching for him.

Not up to the usual excellent quality
Revisado: 04-27-25
I get the feeling that the writer was just trying to find another niche besides the 'end of civilization" theme.
He'll have to keep looking because this is not working. The main character is not well developed, which could be ok except for the endless "i'm gonna kill myself" thing that dragged on and on.
The plot lines are thin and not compelling. Yes, I know human trafficking is horrible but this story lives outside of a plausible scenario for the subject.
One of the things I like about Horton's other books is that the characters step up and deal with their issues and help others.
This guy is just in the way.

As always, excellent.
Revisado: 04-20-25
These books are consistently well written, fast paced and unpredictable.
Well worth the credit.
One note on this series- the capitol police are made out as bad guys in this book. They are in fact heroes. It’s the insurrectionists that deserve the writers scorn. Just wanted to set the record straight.

STOP. You should not have touched this flyer with your bare hands. NO, don't put it down. It's too late. They're watching you. My name is David Wong. My best friend is John. Those names are fake. You might want to change yours. You may not want to know about the things you'll read on these pages, about the sauce, about Korrok, about the invasion, and the future. But it's too late. You touched the book. You're in the game. You're under the eye. The only defense is knowledge. You need to read this book, to the end. Even the part with the bratwurst. Why?

Well done ! Get over the music.
Revisado: 02-23-24
Use the big data people. Just because a whiny person complains about the music it doesn’t mean that it’s true. The music was less than a minute total in the whole book. It really is pathetic that a comment about the music can get elevated to the point that it would impact interest in the very good book. Look at the total reviews.

Pass the potatoes please
Revisado: 01-26-24
The reader hurts this book. Imagine someone who is trying so hard to sound neutral that they enunciate every word just as if they are reading the dictionary. Lighten up, Mr. Diggs, saying every word one at a time so you make sure you don't slip is not working for you. An ok story a little out of date, but go for it if you like mysteries.

Historia
ISIS delivered a devastating attack, crippling not just one city, as on 9-11, but the entire country. The government, while disbursing critical supplies, decided that this was an excellent time to consolidate power, and for one senator, the chance to lock in the presidency. An opportunity to bring the right-wing, anti-federal-government gun fanatics to heel. The government moved quickly to disarm the populace, using control of food and fuel as weapons, but things did not go quite as expected.

Fighting the last Boogeyman
Revisado: 02-24-23
This book is a psychologist's dream. Every fever dream of right wing paranoia combined with the sad , pathetic yearnings of incels. This book has it all. I suggest that the "author" up date the book, however. Although Hilary is in here, as well as FEMA and Homeland Security, there is no mention of the latest evils- Trans people and people from the other side of the wall. Still, Audible has done their part, making sure the hateful FEMA woman has a black accent.
Oh, and special mention goes to the ready- a man unable to pronounce simple words like goading ( groading).
The sad part is that there is a good story in here, if only the relentless hatred of anyone with a higher IQ than 50 was missing.
As the author's favorite person would say: SAD

Revisado: 11-11-22
Tom Clancy invented a whole new genre of thriller- the well researched, entirely accurate story packed with actual real names and numbers of the weapons, submarines and guns. He spent years pouring over Jane's Fighting Ships.
The authors of this series seem to spend a lot of time pouring over the 5.11 website for fashion choices. One wonders if it's product placement or just fanboi love.
In any case, they should get a check in the mail.
A well written if predictable story. All the manly men will love it.
No really, very engaging.

Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. It just keeps plodding ...................along
Revisado: 10-14-22
This happened with "Under The Dome". It took forever to get going. I just walked away from it and came back weeks later. Amazingly, it got better and ended really well. Unfortunately, lightning doesn't strike twice, even in fairy tales. Those comparing it to "The Stand" are really doing a disservice to those who like King but don't worship him. He's not the only writer that misses as often as he hits, but at least the others get honest reviews. We would all be better off if King was held to better standards, or at least everyone else's.

Historia
Innovations rarely come from “experts.” Elon Musk was not an “electric car person” before he started Tesla. When it comes to improbable innovations, a legendary tech VC told Sebastian Mallaby, the future cannot be predicted, it can only be discovered. It is the nature of the venture-capital game that most attempts at discovery fail, but a very few succeed at such a scale that they more than make up for everything else. That extreme ratio of success and failure is the power law that drives the VC business, all of Silicon Valley, the wider tech sector, and, by extension, the world.

Revisado: 07-06-22
Good to know that everyone is a visionary, far seeing person. I was not aware. Great to know that even the jerks aren't really jerks, it just wasn't something they could avoid.
This is the second book I have read by Mallaby. It's useful to inform yourself about these people, and he does that.
I used to work with a guy who made promotional films for local governments to try to attract big business to locate in the area. We always showed the nice parts, not the toxic waste dumps.
So you aren't going to get more than a promotional view of these people, but it's a start.
