Historia
Set against the backdrop of China's Cultural Revolution, a secret military project sends signals into space to establish contact with aliens. An alien civilization on the brink of destruction captures the signal and plans to invade Earth. Meanwhile, on Earth, different camps start forming, planning to either welcome the superior beings and help them take over a world seen as corrupt, or to fight against the invasion. The result is a science fiction masterpiece of enormous scope and vision.

Dynamic story - great if you love physics!
Revisado: 08-23-24
An interesting, compelling, and scientifically grounded novel. I'm not a big sci-fi fan, but this I really enjoyed and will certainly get the next book. Be warned, however, if you struggle with physics, some parts of this book will be a bit of a snooze! The performance is good and really helped paint a picture of the narrative, even if most of the voices stuff the same. Still really highly recommended.

Historia
Punching well above their weight, Max and Markham set out to bring down a sinister organisation founded in the future—with a suspicious focus on the past. Max's focus is staying alive long enough to reunite with Leon and Matthew, alternately helped and hindered by St Mary's—who aren't always the blessing they like to think they are. But non-stop leaping around the timeline—from witnessing Magna Carta to disturbing a certain young man with a penchant for gunpowder—is beginning to take its toll. Is Max going mad? Or are the ghosts of the past finally catching up with her?

One of the best so far!
Revisado: 01-28-23
Jodi Taylor is MAGIC! Seriously, she must work incredibly hard and have a delightful imagination. A long-time lover of the St. Mary's crew, this book is both a great story in itself and a wonderful bridge away from one arch-nemesis towards another.
As usual, Zara Ramm gives an unparalleled performance bringing these characters to light.

Historia
The Gardener Estate is one of the most storied and beloved places on the West Coast: a magnificent house in vast formal grounds, home to a family that shaped California—and fought hard to conceal the turmoil and eccentricities within their walls. And now, just as the turmoil seems buried and the Estate prepares to move into a new future, construction work unearths a grim relic of the estate's history: a skull, hidden away some fifty years ago.

Laurie R. King did it again!
Revisado: 01-28-23
I was introduced to Laurie R. King via the MRH series - which I love. In fact, I love them so much, I've read everything else King had written. This book is another excellent work. The story is original, well thought through, and colorful. The characters are believable and the narration is good.

Historia
September, 1940. Three women of the Checquy, the secret organization tasked with protecting Britain from supernatural threats, stand in the sky above London and see German aircraft approach. Forbidden by law to interfere, all they can do is watch as their city is bombed. Until Pamela breaks all the rules and brings down a Nazi bomber with her bare hands. The three resolve to tell no one about it, but they soon learn that a crew member is missing from the downed bomber. Charred corpses are discovered in nearby houses and it becomes apparent that the women have unwittingly unleashed a monster.

Two-for-One! Great to hear more
Revisado: 01-24-23
Ever since the first in this series, I have loved these books. This one does not disappoint. Quirk is an amazing narrator - she won't let you down! I missed Rook Thomas as she only makes a small appearance in this book, but it's a very strong showing. Great work, Mr. O'Malley!

Don't sleep with your supervisor...duh.
Revisado: 01-02-23
There were some great things about this book, anyway all of them are about the amazing narration. Great work. There are also some really fun parts about the book, mostly about the historical family the student studies. But there are just way too many cliches and fantastic facts (aka complete inaccuracies) about academia to make this enjoyable. There is just one cliche after another which add up to an unbelievably naive protagonist and a smarmy cast of supporting characters. With some pretty basic research into American graduate students studying in the UK and how PhDs are actually written along with giving a pass to the basic "female grad student sleeps with male supervisor" and "academics have no common sense" story lines, this could have been a great book. Clearly the author put a lot of research into the story within the story, it's just such a shame the same research didn't go in to the rest of the narrative.
