Historia
Award-winning executive and journalist Shari Dunn combines deep research with enlightening interviews and anecdotes from across the broad spectrum of her career to uncover the history of Competency Checking, how it manifests in the workplace, and what can be done to change it. Competency checking, Dunn argues, continues to be practiced consciously and unconsciously and is the key reason why Black people and other people of color are underrepresented in so many industries and why there continues to be a revolving door of Black talent even after the hiring surges of 2020.

This is a great book
Revisado: 02-26-25
This is a great book. Everyone needs to understand the challenges of racial biases in the present modern workplace and the various systematic mechanisms that create challenges to black worker performance, recognition and advancement in the workplace and business world. Much of the present can be understood by looking at the past. DEI (by any name) is not the problem. This very well written book covers many of the elements that need to be understood to tackle this issue. And understanding competence checking is one of them.

Historia
An "epoch-defining book" (The Guardian) and "this generation’s Silent Spring" (The Washington Post), The Uninhabitable Earth is both a travelogue of the near future and a meditation on how that future will look to those living through it - the ways that warming promises to transform global politics, the meaning of technology and nature in the modern world, the sustainability of capitalism and the trajectory of human progress. The Uninhabitable Earth is also an impassioned call to action.

He should not be narrating this book.

Is it just me? I can't stand his voice. His writing style also comes from a place or point of view I am very uncomfortable with and diverts from the subject matter I am interested in. I am really interested in the subject of climate change but am sad I spent my free credit from the settlement on this.

Very Good Advice, But Could Use Some Editing
Revisado: 12-13-19
Really good advice, and arguments and facts to support that advice. But the narrator's voice annoyed me and I think book could have been edited down to shorten time.

Historia
When Liv and Nora decide to take their families on a holiday cruise, everyone is thrilled. The ship's comforts and possibilities seem infinite. The children - two 11-year-olds, an eight-year-old, and a six-year-old - love the nonstop buffet and the independence they have at the Kids' Club. But when they all go ashore in beautiful Central America, a series of minor misfortunes leads the families farther and farther from the ship's safety. One minute the children are there, and the next they're gone.
