Historia
The Latecomer follows the story of the wealthy, New York City-based Oppenheimer family, from the first meeting of parents Salo and Johanna, under tragic circumstances, to their triplets born during the early days of IVF. As children, the three siblings—Harrison, Lewyn, and Sally—feel no strong familial bond and cannot wait to go their separate ways, even as their father becomes more distanced and their mother more desperate. When the triplets leave for college, Johanna, faced with being truly alone, makes the decision to have a fourth child.

Wonderful story (though there were some plot twists that you could see from a mile away) and wonderful narrator. I enjoyed every minute of it.

Historia
The year is 1921, and "Nobody" Alice James has just arrived in Oregon with a bullet wound, a lifetime's experience battling the New York Mafia, and 50,000 dollars in illicit cash. She befriends Max, a Black Pullman porter who reminds her achingly of home and who saves Alice by leading her to the Paragon Hotel. But her unlikely sanctuary turns out to be an all-Black hotel in a Jim Crow city, and its lodgers seem unduly terrified of a White woman on the premises. She understands their dread. The Ku Klux Klan has arrived in Portland in fearful numbers.

Absolutely loved it!
Revisado: 12-17-18
I loved this book from the beginning to the end. The story was great, the pacing was great and the descriptions were such that I could see the sights and smell the smells. The narrator was amazing. She was able to capture the voices of people of various ages and genders and her New Orleans accent was amazing.

I didn't expect to love this as much as I did
Revisado: 09-03-18
This was a surprising novel. What started out as an interesting tale of parenthood and birth turned into something dark and scary. There were a few times when I exclaimed aloud. And although authors are not always the best narrators of their books, this one was exceptional. He put emphases right where they belonged and read slowly and carefully. Truly a joy.

I really wanted to like this book
Revisado: 03-28-18
There were a lot of things that bothered me about this book. First, the storyline, at least for the first two-thirds of the book, was not terribly interesting. Moreover, the author used stereotypes of fat people, black people, Latinos, and poor white people throughout. The narration was also annoying. The voices that the actor used were also stereotypical and in addition to mispronouncing some words, simply didn't match the characters.

Well-told story
Revisado: 11-21-17
Although I felt a bit cheated by the end of the story, it was a great ride. The narrator did a terrific job of capturing distinct voices for each of the characters.

A real page-turner
Revisado: 04-09-17
If you're willing to suspend disbelief, this book is a fun ride. The protagonist has an incredible amount of luck in not getting caught. That being said, the book is full of suspense. The narrator's user of the first and second person took a little getting used to, but ultimately it was perfect. z the actor did a great job in capturing the personalities of the characters.

A fun listen
Revisado: 03-02-17
I really enjoyed this book. This courtroom drama was obviously written by a lawyer, and I like the way it rang true. I figured out the ending a little sooner than I would have liked , but it was still a fun listen. The narrator was great.

Not as suspenseful as I'd hoped
Revisado: 10-05-16
The story was often repetitive (the book's narrator kept reviewing her gathered facts) and I kept hoping the plot line would be better than it kept turning out to be. Reader was good, though.

On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge.

Loved it right up until the very end
Revisado: 03-23-16
I love that this story had so many twists and turns. Just when I thought it was going in one direction, it went in another . using two narrators, one to play the husband and the other to play the wife, was a very smart move . Each interpreted his or her part well. I did, however , find the end of the story a bit of a letdown .
