Twelve-year-old Haven Jacobs can’t stop thinking about the climate crisis. In fact, her anxiety about the state of the planet is starting to interfere with her schoolwork, her friendships, even her sleep. She can’t stop wondering why grownups aren’t even trying to solve the earth’s problem—and if there’s anything meaningful that she, as a seventh grader, can contribute.

Loved it!
Revisado: 10-27-23
As an adult reading this to possibly recommend for middle grade readers, I thoroughly enjoyed the book myself and would highly recommend it to readers of all ages! This is the first book for kids that I’ve read addressing eco-anxiety and Barbara Dee does a great job diving into Haven’s feelings in a way that will hopefully be relatable but not triggering for young readers. The narration is also great. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book boldly goes where space opera never has
Revisado: 07-10-23
Becky Chambers dives into the simple things in life. Friendship, little pleasures, and the seemingly mundane. Everyday life in a fantastical galaxy. When I first read it, this book was exactly what I didn’t know I needed… and I loved it. Re-visited it in audiobook and loved it even more.

An amazing book with masterclass narration
Revisado: 07-07-23
I already loved this book, but listening to the audiobook narration by Gemma Whelan took it to a whole new levels. She does different voices for each character, and delivers a masterclass of narration to match Jim Dale’s Harry Potter. Recommended for kids and adults alike. Love it!

Historia
After touring the rural areas of Panga, Sibling Dex (a Tea Monk of some renown) and Mosscap (a robot sent on a quest to determine what humanity really needs) turn their attention to the villages and cities of the little moon they call home. They hope to find the answers they seek, while making new friends, learning new concepts, and experiencing the entropic nature of the universe. Becky Chambers's new series continues to ask: in a world where people have what they want, does having more even matter?

Like a sprinkle of eco-sci-fi fairy dust!
Revisado: 07-01-23
This book brought me such comfort, and also so many moments of delight. If you asked me what actually happened in the plot, I’d probably struggle to tell you, since there isn’t much of it. And yet it was gripping, in the gentlest, warmest way… like a philosophically inclined robot’s arms?
Becky Chambers is the storyteller of my heart. At this point she could probably publish a 500 page Treatise on Mushrooms by Mosscap, and I’d read it and be hooked.

A fun, imaginative multiversal adventure
Revisado: 06-28-23
I really enjoyed this fun, smart story. Kind of like The Hitchhiker’s Guide meets Planesrunner. It took me a little while to get used to the omniscient style and constant jumping between characters, but once I got a strong sense of who each kid was and their unique voice, I really got into it! Looking forward to the next installment!

Historia
We live in a world of stuff. We dispose of most of it in as little as six months after we receive it. The byproducts of our quest to consume are creating an environmental crisis. Aja Barber wants to change this - and you can, too. In Consumed, Barber calls for change within an industry that regularly overreaches with abandon, creating real imbalances in the environment and the lives of those who do the work - often in unsafe conditions for very low pay - and the billionaires who receive the most profit.

A surprisingly delightful book about a very distressing topic. A MUST READ.
Revisado: 10-10-21
Aja Barber somehow accomplishes the feat of writing a book that is really enjoyable and enlightening, while unpacking the dark consequences and roots of consumerism that we prefer not to think about. Narrating it herself with a great performance that’s lighthearted, serious or snarky wherever it needs to be, she’s made the audiobook even more special. I got through it in two days and wanted more. Highly recommended!
And thank you, Aja, for taking the time to write this wonderful book, and then even read it out loud to our lazy selves.
