Historia
Tucked away in the foothills, surrounded by pine forests, loaded with kids who still play outside, Millwood is the small town everyone knows. For Heather Bradley, it's a place that keeps her family safe; her biggest worries are the daily grind of her job and the kids coming home late. She doesn't know that unfathomable forces are set to converge on her town and thrust their neat lives into darkness, but when her oldest son Stuart opens a one-sided door in the woods and a black cloud pours out, the Bradleys and their whole town find themselves locked in a desperate struggle for survival.

I gave up on it
Revisado: 11-26-24
To be honest, I'm not sure if it was me or the book but I just gave up on it midway through chapter 4. I think it was partly the book and partly the narrator. Both seem to drag a bit.
Since I have so many other books to listen to I just gave up on this one.

Historia
The small town of Harrod’s Reach has seen its fair share of the macabre, especially inside the decrepit old train tunnel around which the town was built. After a young boy, Sully Dupree, is injured in the abandoned tunnel and left in a coma, the townspeople are determined to wall it up. Deputy sheriff Beth Gardner is reluctant to buy into the superstitions until she finds two corpses at the tunnel’s entrance, each left with strange calling cards inscribed with old lullabies. Soon after, Sully Dupree briefly awakens from his coma.

It was OK but...
Revisado: 10-13-24
The male narration was fine BUT the female voice was annoying. She spoke too softly and made it sound like she was (unsuccessfully) trying to sound sympathetic. VERY annoying.
I liked most of the book but it got a bit sexual in parts I don't feel added ANYTHING to the story. Seems it was just thrown in to add pages to the book or perhaps try to appeal more to men. Either way I found it absolutely necessary.

Started out OK
Revisado: 09-27-24
The beginning seemed promising but by chapter 6 I had enough. The narrator got on my nerves. She sounded like she just woke up and wasn't ready for the day yet. And the story wasn't as good as expected either (but I did only get to chapter 6).
I was really looking forward to this book and am really disappointed.
I'm returning it.

It was good
Revisado: 09-24-24
I enjoyed Ghostland but I think one book is enough for me. I still have an hour to listen to but don't see me ordering book 2. It's well written and a good story but very few books ever make it past book one in my ibrary and I'm afraid this will be another of those books.

Historia
The world crashed to pieces on June 23rd and Adrian Ring wasn't anywhere near ready for it. He had no guns, no food, no friends around, a cat that wanted to slip out the back of the condo and a girlfriend trapped in the heart of the city. This is the story of how he survived. Real, flawed, and raw, Dark Recollections is Adrian's own story of how he survived after "That Day". Told through his eyes as he talks to his laptop, affectionately named "Mr. Journal".

Good but LONG...
Revisado: 09-11-24
I did like the book but by the time I was down towads the end (chapter 33 of 38) I have increased the speed to 1.25 and was ready for it to end. The story was good but I found the sexual refrenece a bit OTT after the first few (which were amusing) and began to get annoyed with them. I still have over an hour left and will be glad it's over.
However, it weas VERY long and I did (or will soon) manage to listen to it all.

Historia
In 48 hours, the Earth will be hit by a coronal mass ejection (CME) from the sun, a "Carrington Event" that has the power to shut down and possibly destroy the world's electrical infrastructure. To try and prevent permanent damage, everything goes dark prior to the hit: Global communications are shut down; hospital emergency generators are disconnected; the entire internet, media broadcasting, and cell phone systems are turned off. Will the world's population successfully defend itself in the wake of the CME, or will mass panic lead to the breakdown of society as we know it?

Very good but...
Revisado: 07-26-24
I really like this book but found it a bit longwinded. It kind of lost me towards the end when it got all "technical". I think guys might like that but I really wish authors wouldn't do that. I feel they are just fill pages with words to make it longer. It really doesn't work for me.
Ignoring that aspect, I did really like the book.
