A classic thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Michael Crichton, Sphere is a bravura demonstration of what he does better than anyone: riveting storytelling that combines frighteningly plausible, cutting-edge science and technology with pulse-pounding action and serious chills.

Let’s just forget about
Revisado: 04-27-19
Take Crichton’s own advice and forget about this book. Pedestrian prose and story, quite predictable. Hated the narration which reminded me of those awful ads for lost puppies where they’re barely able to hold back the tears. I’m just sorry I wasted my time on this... (this is not to mention the somewhat disturbing undercurrents of sexism and racism)

Historia
For his victims, for their families and for the investigators tasked with finding him, the senselessness and brutality of the Golden State Killer's acts were matched only by the powerlessness they felt at failing to uncover his identity. Then, on April 24, 2018, authorities arrested 72-year-old Joseph James DeAngelo at his home in Citrus Heights, Calif., based on DNA evidence linked to the crimes. Amazingly, it seemed, evil finally had a name. Please note: This work contains descriptions of violent crime and sexual assault and may not be suitable for all listeners.

Gripping
Revisado: 01-22-19
Very good with only one complaint - in Chapter 10 they never fully explain how they knew the Visalia (spelling?) attacker was the EAR. Prior to this chapter they implied he hadn’t killed until much later but then they talk about him murdering the girl’s father. I found this confusing and had to rewind a number of times. That aside this is very well told and very moving. I am happy that they provided full respect to the victims.

Historia
Who says you can't run away from your problems? Arthur Less is a failed novelist about to turn 50. A wedding invitation arrives in the post: it is from an ex-boyfriend of nine years who is engaged to someone else. Arthur can't say yes - it would be too awkward; he can't say no - it would look like defeat. So, he begins to accept the invitations on his desk to half-baked literary events around the world. From France to India, Germany to Japan, Arthur almost falls in love, almost falls to his death, and puts miles between him and the plight he refuses to face.

I loved this book - an enthralling story written with wit and style. And with the added bonus of one of the best narrations I’ve heard on Audible. Stig’s accents and intonations of the different voices were perfect.

Good but not quite a classic yet
Revisado: 04-15-18
I’d say this is an author to watch. Some of the character development was a bit weak and there were a few too many cliched themes, particularly with relation to the adoptive parents. Unlike many reviewers here, I thought the narration was good but, yes, occasionally a little over dramatic. That said, I think she conveyed the passion of the characters well.

I almost didn’t read this due to all the reviews complaining about the ending. Ignore them! The narration was good although the father’s “voice” was annoying, I have to say...
