Historia
Working at the local processing plant, Marcos is in the business of slaughtering humans - though no one calls them that anymore. His wife has left him, his father is sinking into dementia, and Marcos tries not to think too hard about how he makes a living. After all, it happened so quickly. First, it was reported that an infectious virus has made all animal meat poisonous to humans. Then governments initiated the "Transition". Now, eating human meat - "special meat" - is legal. Marcos tries to stick to numbers, consignments, processing.

It’s been over 2 years and I still think about this book
Revisado: 08-20-24
Honestly… I LOVED this book. I recommend it to everyone (with lots of disclaimers haha) but also… if they want to read something that will
make them uncomfortable, with an ending that truly makes you question everything you just read… that lingers in the back of your brain LONG after you finished the last sentence… this is the book for you.

Chris watches as the world around him falls apart. Bitten by a loved one, he hovers in a feverish state for weeks, his recovery carefully observed by a group that considers itself above humanity. A group that sees people as prey. Chris becomes a pawn in the war to determine the future of mankind. Follow him as he evolves from being a frazzled 20-something college educated mama's boy into something more. Hopefully, it's enough.

Tbh, I really enjoy R.S. Merritt’s books. I’ve listened to all of his Zombies! And CrWlers series (that’s available in Audible) and really love them.

Historia
You can run forever or you can turn around and fight. Fighting hordes of the insane, imbued with superhuman strength, and broadcasting waves of psychic terror might not seem like a great idea. It might even seem a little suicidal trying to go toe to toe with millions of monsters when you've got limited ammunition and a president that kind of hopes you lose. Suicidal or not, the sibling trio of Yue, Drew and LeBron is ready to dig in their heels and do some serious damage.

Interesting take into a “hive mind” zombie system
Revisado: 04-01-23
First off, I really love the narrator. All of his distinct voices and tones really make it easy to know who is who. Harvey’s character is my favorite I also liked his navy seal friend. :(
I’m not entirely sure I would have liked the direction Yu’s character went in but I was more open to it over time as they established she’s not the only one that’s been discovered to do what she does. Had they made it seem like she’s the “only” one, and a “savior of humanity”, I definitely would have stopped the series as it’s tired and cliche.
However, I still like the series. I really enjoy the authors way of storytelling. It’s easy to follow and doesn’t feel forced. Its loaded with lots of excitement and action packed scenarios that keep me listening. I’m curious how each of the characters will develop into their new roles over the next books in the series.

It barely touched the surface of “horror”
Revisado: 02-27-23
Super disappointed. I really thought this would have become way more “darker” and grittier than it was. It had so much potential to truly push boundaries and it was flat and disappointing. :(

Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

The climax was…. A let down
Revisado: 10-18-22
I was hooked into the story right from the start! But tbh when Charlie and Radar finally got to the other world… it was… “boring?” I dunno. I kept wanting there to be something magical and enchanting about this world but it felt like a cobbled together story of boring fairytale characters. It was missing the magic and enchantment. Even if SK wanted it to be a “darker” place… it was meh tbh. 3.5 stars.

Favorite book so far in the series
Revisado: 10-12-22
I’m really loving all of the new characters — I especially like Harley and even Jeff. I love how action packed this book was and love the different scenarios the characters were placed in. I also really enjoyed all the sarcastic banter in this book and the apologies the author used to describe the scenes. So far it’s been my favorite in the series and I’m excited to read/listen to more!

Love the story; insufferable narrator accents
Revisado: 08-02-22
Look, I enjoy this story. It’s not too serious and is interesting enough to keep me engaged but the publisher should really have picked someone else to do this narration as the Voice/accent for Rodriguez was insufferable and honestly embarrassing to listen to. I cringed every single time he would voice Rodriguez, slipping in and out of a “Latin” accent where the cadence was completely off and totally sounded like a kid trying to mimic something he’s heard once.
Totally took me out of the story.
I will continue to listen, but please be warned, and I dunno… just pay attention to the story and not the horrid mess of “voice acting” in this book.

I couldn’t do it- author/narrator sounds like Tom Hanks
Revisado: 12-22-21
I tried. This was recommended to me by someone I met and it sounded interesting but I could not stand the narrators/authors voice. He sounds like Tom Hanks and I could NOT get into this. I got to chapter 11 or ~3hrs in and had to put on my Did not Finish shelf.
It probably wouldn’t have been so bad had I read it the traditional way, but the author did a horrible job narrating his own work. Please have professionals re-do this.
