This series has been a real treat for me. The premise for the books is very creative and quite clever. I’ve been looking for something creative and unpredictable, and without all the typical tropes. If you’re looking at reviews to see if you want to read these books, do yourself a favor and give one a try.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Very clever premise
Revisado: 05-31-24
I learned so much from this book, the scientific education of cephalopod was marvelous. The behavioral aspects of the story take place within human characters of different age ranges. The depth of each individual revealed aspects that I could certainly identify with.
I read hundreds of books a year, and not many of them can move me like this book. Treat yourself, and give this book a listen. The narrator is certainly on her ”A” game.

Historia
Hell comes to Southern California every October. It rides in on searing Santa Ana winds that blast at near hurricane force, igniting voracious wildfires. Master thief Danny Cole longs for the flames. A tsunami of fire is exactly what he needs to pull off a daring crime and avenge a fallen friend. As the most devastating firestorms in Los Angeles’ history scorch the hills of Malibu, relentless arson investigator Walter Sharpe and his wild card of a new partner, Andrew Walker, a former US marshal, suspect that someone set the massive blazes intentionally, a terrifying means to an unknown end.

Great character development exploring many facets of the ideas of wrong vs right, or good versus evil. It’s a cleverly thought about premise. That was a lot of fun to read.

Historia
Gaia is dying. That, at least, is what Dr. Lionel Scott believes. A renowned expert in tropical and infectious diseases, Scott has witnessed the devastating impact of illness and turmoil at critical scale. Society as it exists is untenable, and the direct link to Earth’s death spiral; population levels are out of control and people have allowed disarray and disorder to run rampant. While most are concerned about deadly disease, Scott knows that it is truly humanity itself that will destroy Gaia.

Good escapism with some old familiar friends
Revisado: 04-11-24
At this point, it must be difficult to come up with believable storylines. This story was obviously created by a lot of research. The viability of an event like this is not impossible, but likely improbable. But under John Sanford‘s expertise, suspension of disbelief is possible.
The narrator is top class, even though there are mispronunciations of very common words: piñon tree was pronounced piñohn tree repeatedly. I guess I fault the producer more than the talent. But the writing is so good, mispronunciations are minor irritants.
I have enjoyed the ark of character development in all of Mr. Sanford‘s writings. Letty naturally has taken on many behavioral characteristics of her stepdad, Lukas. Combined with her intelligence and toughness, she has become a formidable presence within the world that John Sanford has created; she is a delight.

I enjoy books by LT Ryan and this one has been no exception. I particularly enjoy. enjoyed learning about the origin of dog behaviors, and training them with that in mind.
It’s a good murder mystery, I’m looking forward to the rest of the series.

Very Interesting Story
Revisado: 02-02-23
I enjoyed how the author describes the main character’s love of photography, making me believe it is a passion of the author.
It’s a clever story, mixing in the experience of the Native American culture into a (sort of) murder mystery.

I believe my favorite
Revisado: 12-10-22
This book moved me more than any other Barry Eisler novels. Dox has become one of my all time literary characters because of his past, his strengths, his frailties, his humanness, and his overall goodness.
Mr Eisler paints his stories in layers of pain, suffering, angst, hope, righteousness, and the hope of good.
He doesn’t present his stories in a black/white, or either/or manner, but rather in a complex mixture of the realities of life, more of “both/and”.
I usually don’t particularly care for authors narrating their own books, the artistic work of professional actors and narrators are needed to bring to life the story and characters produced by the artistic efforts of professional writers. Rarely do the to professions intersect, but Barry Eisler acting and narrating chops are 1st rate. He reads his characters as real people, without using irritating affectations to differentiate the players in the story.
With each novel Mr Eisler produces on Audible, he reveals enormous talent and intelligence. The genre may not appeal to everyone, but I imagine everyone who listens to the books would would still be impressed.
I constantly am listening to a book, and experience a wide array of efforts, and I found the production quality in this book to be top notch,
I highly recommend this book.

Thought I was so smart, and figured out the ending.
Revisado: 11-26-22
I really enjoy the series, the characters always seem real to me, and the most of the situations entirely possible.
It always delights me when authors tricked me into thinking I know how it’s going to end, and then pull a rabbit out of the hat, and prove me wrong.
The narrator, Edward Ballerini, is in the top of the class, as far as audible, narrators, right up there with Scott Brick.
This was a fun story, but held my attention at all times.
