Historia
When the famous German author Sebastian Haffner died at the age of 91 in 1999, a manuscript was discovered among his unpublished papers. The book was begun in 1939, but with the advent of World War II, Haffner had set it aside. His family made the decision to publish it, and the book became a best seller in Germany in 2002. Spanning the period from 1907 to 1933, it offers a unique perspective on how the average educated German grappled with the rise of Hitler.

True insight
Revisado: 06-03-22
The book provides not only a perspective of the real social conditions that created the Nazis, but also provides a human understanding of how a seemingly normal thoughtful young person could be seduced by the social pressures and distractions the Nazis forced upon even the non believers.

Historia
World War II reached into the homes and lives of ordinary people in an unprecedented way. Civilians made up the vast majority of those killed by war. On Europe's home front, the war brought the German blitzkrieg, followed by long occupations and the racial genocide of the Holocaust. In An Iron Wind, historian Peter Fritzsche draws on first-person accounts to show how civilians in occupied Europe struggled to understand this maelstrom.

The writing suffers from the drone of the seemingly open mouthed narrator. His overly somber slow and monotone reading makes it difficult to even begin to flush out the authors points. It is like listening to someone who is not interested in what he is doing trying to read while real tired and may not finish the sentence before he floats off to dream land. This is about a lot of important but horrendous events that people recorded sometimes with their last life's breath. SOUND INTERESTED GOMER!

Historia
The first book of D Day Through German Eyes has fascinated listeners around the world with its insight into the German experience of June 6, 1944. Now, book 2 contains a completely different set of astonishing German testimonies from the same archive. These newly translated eyewitness statements by German veterans show the defenders to be determined but psychologically insecure, often deluded in their thinking, and all too human in their shock at the onslaught they faced.
