In this brilliant, highly accessible recording, award-winning narrator Alison Larkin draws on her own adoption experience to bring Charlotte Bronte’s story to authentic new life. Like Curling up with a Blanket and a Cup of Tea
Revisado: 06-02-20
I absolutely adore Jane Eyre; it is one of those novels I get going back to. It's comforting to read something familiar, but I always get something ne out of it when I revisit it. Hearing it narrated is even better -- it's like getting a wonderful bedtime story. Larkin's narration of this classic is spot on. Her portrayal of each character brings them alive, and adds to the overall experience of the story.

Historia
Educated in Lebanon, United States, and France, Gibran was influenced by the European modernists of the late 19th century, but even more by Francis Marrash, who introduced poetic prose and prose poetry in the Arab world. Gibran's style of writing and ideas he wrote about are believed to have been greatly influenced by Marrash, particularly the concept of universal love.

The narrorator doesn't seem to match the text
Revisado: 08-07-19
I love Kahil Gibran. His writing is lyrical, magical, and profound. His writing is the sort that one can re-read at different stages of one's life and get different things out of it -- all of them meaningful. I was so excited to recieve a copy of this as an audiobook, because poetry recited often adds a new dimension to the work.
However ... the narration lacks something. The narrator is skilled, but his voice does not match the text, in my opinion. His is not the voice I would have chosen to narrate this work.

Historia
The third installment of the John Pickett series of humorous Regency mysteries finds Bow Street Runner Pickett in Scotland investigating a woman found unconscious on the beach - a woman who bears a striking resemblance to the local laird's daughter, a girl missing and presumed dead for the last 15 years. Pickett is surprised to discover that the woman was found by none other than Lady Fieldhurst and her three young nephews - and gratified to learn that her ladyship has registered at the seaside inn as Mrs. Julia Pickett.

I really like this series

I was given a free copy of this audiobook by the author in exchange for an honest review.
I am very grateful for the free audiobook! I have enjoyed this series so much. It is well-plotted, humorous, diverting, engaging, witty, well-written, and overall entertaining. I enjoyed the two books that preceded this installment in the series, and the third one did not disappoint. I love seeing how Pickett and Lady Fieldhurst interact. This book intensified their connection even more -- which made the cliffhanger at the end even more tantalizing! (In all honesty: the romance does not overshadow the mystery, for those who are purists. I am first and foremost a mystery reader ... but I can appreciate a romantic element under the mystery.) I cannot wait to read the next installment, given how this book ended.

Historia
In the year 1878 I took my degree of Doctor of Medicine of the University of London, and proceeded to Netley to go through the course prescribed for surgeons in the army. Having completed my studies there, I was duly attached to the Fifth Northumberland Fusiliers as Assistant Surgeon. The regiment was stationed in India at the time, and before I could join it, the second Afghan war had broken out.

I am a huge Sherlock Holmes fan. I have read this story more than once, and I have listened to other performances of the story. I will not tolerate anyone not doing him justice in an audiobook production. This was a pretty good reading (not as good as the Stephen Fry production, but few can match him). There were a few times that the pace of the reading seemed too slow (odd pauses before words, etc.), but overall it was well done.
