Historia
The vibrant pageant of Elizabethan England comes to life in Karen Harper's fifth novel in her acclaimed Elizabeth I Mystery Series. Hailed as "extraordinary" by The Los Angeles Times, these historical mysteries beautifully blend fact and fiction as the young Queen Elizabeth Tudor becomes an amateur sleuth to save her court, crown, and kingdom. Though summering in the lush countryside to escape the plague rampaging through London, the queen and her court cannot escape the reach of a multiple murderer who seems to disappear at will. In the gardens of Hampton Court, Elizabeth proudly shows a famed visiting lawyer her huge hornbeam maze. But the intricate labyrinth soon becomes a scene of horror as Elizabeth herself is attacked and the lawyer is murdered within its leafy dead ends. The queen calls upon her small, select band of advisors to help her ferret out the identity of the maze murderer.

The really poor editing and quality control!
Revisado: 04-09-25
The story and narration were both outstanding but after listening to hundreds of audiobooks, I have never encountered a book as poorly edited as this! There are numerous occasions where prior sentences and paragraphs are repeated in the middle of a later section of the book! As an Audiobook narrator and producer myself, I understand the work and effort which goes into an audiobook. The publisher owes it to both Karen Harper and the late, great Katherine Kellgren, to have this book entirely re edited!

Angus King’s brilliant narration!
Revisado: 11-04-24
The story was great and followed on nicely with the first book. Love the story, characters and narration.
Angus did a brilliant job yet again! I’m giving him tons of kudos because in the author’s acknowledgments at the end, everyone and their brother was mentioned regarding the audiobook, but no acknowledgment for the narrator, Angus King is wonderful! As a narrator myself, I thought that was a huge oversight! There would be no audiobook without the narrator! Narrating an audiobook takes a lot of work and a lot of talent!

Historia
The head of Scotland’s most powerful crime family is brutally murdered, his body dumped inside an ancient grave in a remote cemetery. Detectives Max Craigie and Janie Calder arrive at the scene, a small town where everyone has secrets to hide. They soon realise this murder is part of a blood feud between two Scottish families that stretches back to the 1800s. One thing’s for certain: it might be the latest killing, but it won’t be the last.

Revisado: 10-20-24
What a great story. I was hooked from the first page. The characters are interesting and as usual Angus does an absolutely brilliant job with the narration. His name should be credited on the audiobook cover. He’s the best! On to the second book in the series!

Outstanding narration and great story!
Revisado: 10-01-24
I loved the focus on a little known yet important powerful woman who ruled over the largest Celtic tribe in Northern England. I love stories about strong women. Melanie’s characters were well developed and the story really flowed well. Lesley’s performance was outstanding and the accents were authentic. I highly recommend this audio book, and now I’m moving on to the next book in the series!

The plot was great and Cathleen does an amazing job with the characters. I particularly enjoyed Ace and Tammy Jo’s voices, although all of the voices are incredibly well performed. I am an audiobook narrator myself so hats off to you Cathleen! You are inspiring!

I love the complex characters and the plot based on the current state of the world decline. Brilliantly conceived and written.
Revisado: 07-18-24
The author’s note was a fantastic summary of the state of affairs not only in Britain but in many of the so-called first world countries! The poverty rates are hardly surprising but startling nonetheless.
I thought Eduardo was great but locals in Cornwall do not sound like they are from London!
Can’t wait for the next book!

Angus delivered an amazing performance in this book. Some of the characters accents were very difficult to pull off, especially Granny. A mixed accent is so hard to perform convincingly. Great story.

It all started harmlessly enough. An egged window, a deflated car tire, and a few garden gnomes knocked over. But then, the silent calls began–late nights and early mornings to landlines and mobiles, and numbers that no one should have access to.

Another winner!
Revisado: 04-08-24
Loved the plot and Angus was brilliant as always! The only disappointment was Sinead. Without doing a spoiler…..no woman with a high risk pregnancy would do what she did! Sinead is really smart, but in this book she comes across as stupid and self centered! I’ve experienced the same “type” of pregnancy as her and would never have considered any kind of risky behavior! …… For what it’s worth! Other than that, who am I to criticize! I have so much admiration for authors, and absolutely love this series which I’ve binge listened to!
