I loved it - but I'm the type of guy that likes 'slam bam' stuff. The dialogue at the end with the 'big brother, little sister' stuff may turn some people off, but I think it was meant to show off a different type of character that likes to talk dirty during sex.

And yes, this is not a romance, ladies! If you're looking for light and fluffy love stories, don't buy this particular story.

Honestly, you can't judge this particular audiobook by the sample. The main character, Sethra is doing a monologue into his implant as part of his diary - basically giving us the setting for why these humans are where they are today. So Sethra is asking questions to himself (reason for the narrator's 'up' tones here) for almost a full 4 minutes, then reverts to regular conversing. And Sethra is a geek, so he isn't going to speak like a Toast Masters speaker. (Think Sheldon or Leonard from Big Bang Theory).

I found there was some 'echo' in the prologue during Sethra's monologue, but once chapter 1 started, that went away, so it seems to me a couple of reviewers were only writing their reviews based on listening to the audio sample, thinking the narrator is elongating the last word in a sentence when hearing the echo and that she is speaking only in up tones, then reading Amazon reviews to get the gist of what the book was - then writing a review.

If you listen to the whole book (it IS very technical, so be prepared to listen closely), it's a pretty entertaining collection of characters. The narrator states the 'star' date and time in the beginning of almost every chapter like a Captain's Log from Star Trek - but that's how the author wrote it - I guess Mr. Miller wants to give us a sense of how much time is passing between each event and subplot. That sometimes seems a bit much because sometimes only hours have passed. But if you listen to this audiobook with stereo headphones, you can hear the warm, subtle shading in the narrator's tones as she mentions dates and times - it isn't monotone. Character voices were distinct and fun.

And there are several android characters in this story - I expected the narrator to sound like Data did in Star Trek: The Next Generation to voice them and she did. I actually think Ms. Padovan's narration for this particular story made it even better than how it is written.

The author tends to overdo having his characters explain their actions in the beginning, as if he is very intent to make sure we understand what is going on, but once it's rolling past the first couple of explanation chapters, you are very much intrigued and drawn into the world of Kyrathaba Rising. The humor is there from the beginning and helps keep it from ever being boring.

I enjoyed the written version and very much enjoyed this audio version. Highly recommended for sci-fi buffs :-)

My favorite character of the BAD Boys, Roman finally gets his chance for happiness in a big bdsm way! I honestly think this is the best out of the 3 Enslaved tales by Ms. Evers - probably because I didn't care as much for the first 2 couples (Trevor and Elisabeth; Marc and Lauren).

The narration is better here than in the first 2, though there are some minor audio 'echoes' and maybe holding onto ending phrases a touch too long on occasion, but overall, flows well and was very entertaining.

And it premiered during Audible's 25% off sale - can't beat that!

What made the experience of listening to Badwater: The Forensic Geology Series the most enjoyable?

It reminds me of the entertaining, suspense writings of Kathy Reichs (and the tv series 'Bones') which focuses on the use of forensic anthropology. Here instead, the subject is forensic geology - which very few, if any suspense authors write about.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Oh, yeah! Cassie and Walter's jeep getting sabotaged, stranding them in Death Valley; the findings in the caves, not knowing where the killer was hiding; not knowing if anyone or everyone was getting radiation poisoning or not. The author did a great job with the realism of the topic and even had an ending with a twist to it.

What about Christine Padovan’s performance did you like?

She made Cassie's voice a bit tomboyish and matter-of-fact but not overly geeky - which fit the character to a T. Walter sounded appropriately grizzled as the older, slightly ailing mentor to Cassie. All of Ms. Padovan's voice choices seemed to fit each character very well. Pronunciations of the terms were great - I didn't find any mistakes like one listener did.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but it wasn't possible! It's a long book and the amount of detail with the geology terminology made you have to listen very carefully to the dialogue and descriptions.

Any additional comments?

Hope Audible gets more of Toni Dwiggins' books into audio!

Would you listen to Enslaved again? Why?

Thank you, Audible for redoing the audio quality and having the beginning re-narrated better. Only thing I can say is the author tends to write along the lines of a Harlequin romance but with a bdsm twist. The characters are entertaining but a bit superficial. Ms Evers likes to repeat phrases like 'wet with desire' which gets to be a little annoying. But the sex scenes and the dialogue never make this a boring story.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Roman - I liked the brooding quality he brought to the story while still having a sense of humor. And his professor like tone he took teaching others how to be subs and Doms was cool.

What does Christine Padovan bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She's definitely not your run-of-the-mill narrator. Definitely has a great voice - beautiful tonal qualities. Her style of narration is sometimes odd to me, but the writing with so many run on sentences probably would throw anyone off where breaks should be - overall, I liked the styling and wasn't perturbed as some of the other listeners have been.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Laughed a lot with the antics of Gregory and Julian - the author was smart to put humor in the story amongst the angst of the love triangle between Elizabeth, Trevor and Roman.

Any additional comments?

Even with the lacking I felt with rounding out more of the characters' backgrounds and the cutesy endings, I really enjoy Ms Evers' writing and will definitely get the next books in the series.
