Great performance, slow story

I think Barrie Kreinik did a great job with the Irish accents, and differentiating between all of the characters. The story took it's sweet old time gaining momentum, and it wasn't until that last dozen chapters that I felt anything was happening. 2 sex scenes, but only one of them is really described.

I don't feel this is as emotionally complex as her previous novels. You can tell a lot of research was put into this. Storyline is page 1 predictable, and the ending felt rushed. The fact that Prudence gives up after being accused of theft feels very out of character. She fights the entire book, and just all of a sudden quits. Seems fishy.

Representation matters

I saw my own story echoed in this narrative. The struggle for identity, not wanting to disappoint or shame my parents... I zoned out in the middle of the love triangle, but I loved the growth and self reflection Ever went through. Immigration, racism, cultural expectations, mental health we're all covered in this book. I didn't like that Ever has 2 sexual encounters at the age of 18 as part of her rebellion, and there's no talk of condoms. I know it's not sexy or romantic, but I think it's important that she was safe.

This was absolutely lovely to listen to. Beautiful voices. Beautifully written. I teared up towards the end. Such passionate women that more people should know about.

Has potential, dry in the middle

I liked this because it was filled with wonder and magic. I felt some of the topics presented were dark, but I'm not sure the reading level the book is written for will pick up on it. There was a large chunk in the middle that was dry and seemed to drag on forever, but when the action started back up it had my full attention. I really loved Christina Moore narration. Ms. Moore's voices and storytelling reminded me of my mom reciting stories to me.

Great ending

I'm sad to see this trilogy go. Well written, and I appreciated how strong and resolute our heroin was. Julia Whelan did a marvelous job narrating, and kudos to her on her French. I loved that there wasn't this constant back and forth of "does he/she like me". Petra's scary. I was expecting the final battle scene to be longer, but it was perfect. Heart broken when Mick died, and was really worried about Tonya. Thank goodness there's a triplet.

I'm so glad this wasn't a repeat of the couple drama from the previous book. I enjoyed hearing from Astrid, but I don't feel that she's a fully enough developed character to really go in the direction Forrest is taking her (ie the void). That doesn't mean that I don't feel for her- she was fully ready to cross over, and now she's been ripped in two. Though, she kind of has powers now since she can hear the dead. Forrest's gone through all of the female voices of the Rag team, does that mean we're going to start hearing from the men now? Speaking of voices, I found it difficult to distinguish between Harley and Astrid- they sounded so much alike. In previous books Astrid had a more distinct voice that I didn't feel came through in her chapters in book 4. Excited to see what happens in New Orleans with Harley and Wade.

I love Santana. I hope we get to hear more from her as the series goes on. This book was focused on everyone coupling up, and I'm so angry that Harley and Wade couldn't take that next step. Harley's so whiny, and I really hope this doesn't continue through to book 9. Fingers crossed they'll figure out their feelings for each other over the course of the next book so they can become a power couple, and take down Katherine.
