Fun Holiday Romcom!
Revisado: 12-21-23
NYC holiday magic, fun friend groups, all day dates, like a perfect holiday movie. Excited for another book to be added to this series. Really liked the male narrator on this one, great job doing the female voices, which is hard. Enjoyed!

Loved the story and the characters, loved the female character’s narration, not so much the male’s. Short, sweet, sparkling holiday romcom!

Historia
For many families, the holiday season is—in a word—unhinged. In no family is that more true than in Danny Pellegrino’s, beloved podcast host of Everything Iconic and bestselling author. Inappropriately improvised monologues at the children's Christmas pageant, presents that land someone in the emergency room, or just sitting on the absolute roller coaster that is a Hallmark movie marathon, the holidays are a strange and magical time in the Pellegrino household. And nobody knows this better than Danny.

Love Danny’s storytelling! He’s sweet, quick witten, amazing at impersonating his mom and other characters and he loves everything 90s and early aughts, which is so fun. Jessica Simpson references galore, so good!

Historia
In June 2021, the whole world was listening as Britney Spears spoke in open court. The impact of sharing her voice—her truth—was undeniable, and it changed the course of her life and the lives of countless others. The Woman in Me reveals for the first time her incredible journey—and the strength at the core of one of the greatest performers in pop music history. Written with remarkable candor and humor, Spears’s groundbreaking book illuminates the enduring power of music and love—and the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms, at last.

Worth every minute!
Revisado: 10-26-23
So glad I listened to the full book and didn’t just take in the headlines all over the media. The story is important, performed perfectly by Michelle Williams (who certainly deserves an award for this reading), and gives Britney Spears a voice, one that so many women don’t get the chance to have.
It also has so many BTS stories, if you love her music, the 90s/00s, and pop culture, it is fun to hear her side and I definitely only knew a small fraction of her life and career, even though I thought I knew much more.
Not everyone is playing the music business game, that was my biggest take away, as a sensitive, kind, artist, she literally was eaten up and spit back out so many times and had no maliciousness towards everyone. It’s also a great lesson to not judge, she didn’t want to be a “train wreck” and was just given zero grace. Really enjoyed it, listened in one day.

Once upon a time, a no-frills J.Crew rollneck sweater held an almost mystical power—or at least it felt that way. The story of J.Crew is the story of the original “lifestyle brand,” whose evolution charts a sea change in the way we dress, the way we shop, and who we aspire to be over the past four decades—all told through iconic clothes and the most riveting characters imaginable.

Found this very entertaining and eye opening.
Being in the apparel business, I learned so much and as a consumer, it was a treat to hear so many behind the curtain stories.
Well read, I listened to the audio book, long, but fast paced and worth the listen.
The history of ready to wear, the mainstays of why things go wrong, and the insight into why shopping has changed were all great parts of this book.

High-powered businesswoman Lana Rubicon has a lot to be proud of: her keen intelligence, impeccable taste, and the L.A. real estate empire she’s built. But when she finds herself trapped 300 miles north of the city, convalescing in a sleepy coastal town with her adult daughter Beth and teenage granddaughter Jack, Lana is stuck counting otters instead of square footage—and hoping that boredom won’t kill her before the cancer does.

Fun book!

Performance was good and the story was fun. The characters were quirky and quintessential small town murder mystery personas. Light, not scary or disturbing at all, which I liked. Set in an interesting location, which provides some geographic learnings and insight into land trusts, etc.

Heartbreaking With A Healthy and Positive Ending
Revisado: 08-10-23
You just don’t know until you know a person’s story!
I was shocked and how chaotic and dangerous her upbringing was and found the telling captivating and well performed. It was super healthy to hear the progress she has made as an adult to overcome her trama. Definitely recommend if you are a fan or if you like a coming of age mother daughter story.

Historia
Authors June Hayward and Athena Liu were supposed to be twin rising stars: same year at Yale, same debut year in publishing. But Athena’s a cross-genre literary darling, and June didn’t even get a paperback release. Nobody wants stories about basic white girls, June thinks. So when June witnesses Athena’s death in a freak accident, she acts on impulse: she steals Athena’s just-finished masterpiece, an experimental novel about the unsung contributions of Chinese laborers to the British and French war efforts during World War I.

You Have To Read It to Get It
Revisado: 08-01-23
R. F. Kuang wrote at least three books in one with Yellowface and it had me hooked from Chapter 1. Definitely campy, in a good way, exaggerated for effect, and fast paced, which I loved. June is a study in the friend of the main character, she is just not the best, in anyway, but being inside her head is a rollercoaster of emotions, life phases, and struggles with doing anything to make it. Highly recommend if you like satire!
