So bad I stopped after I listened to 90%
Revisado: 12-20-24
Normally I cut my losses a lot earlier when a book is awful but I didn’t this time so you can imagine how bad it had to be to become so exasperated with the dialogue as to quit with only 10% left. The dialogue was beyond painful and absurd throughout. The storyline became more and more implausible until I just couldn’t take any more. The narrator’s pronunciation was very off. Overall a miserable listening experience!

I read it with an open mind, and it’s nonsense
Revisado: 02-14-23
This book is absolute nonsense. I read it with a completely open mind, hoping to learn something but it’s just utter nonsense. I can’t speak for back pain since I don’t have that but if you have any other type of pain, don’t expect anything from this book besides irritation. (And that’s your “ego” talking. Were your ego not dictating your thoughts, you’d agree the book was amazing, like the author.)

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Just okay
Revisado: 09-21-22
There was a certain crassness to the book that I didn’t like. The repeat descriptions of bulimia are what really started to make the book feel tedious and emotionally taxing just to read. I can definitely appreciate the overall story but I am surprised by how much hype there was been around this book considering how draining it was to read. I definitely did not feel there was any humor that lightened it. Just a really sad story start to finish.

Unbelievably bad narrator
Revisado: 05-23-21
Totally robotic. Couldn’t stand to listen to this. I don’t know if the book was good or not. I can’t believe audible allows this to be sold like this. Words pronounced wrong.

Historia
When it comes to parenting, more isn't always better - but it is always more tiring. Over the course of nearly 50 years, Robert and Sarah LeVine have conducted a groundbreaking, worldwide study of how families work. They have consistently found that children can be happy and healthy in a wide variety of conditions, not just the effort-intensive, cautious environment so many American parents drive themselves crazy trying to create. Do Parents Matter? is an eye-opening look at the world of human nurture, one with profound lessons for the way we think about our families.

Doesn’t deliver what it promises
Revisado: 05-13-20
The book didn’t deliver on what the title and description claim. I still don’t know the actual answer to any of these questions after listening. Very poorly backed up assertions not based on decent science but the author’s guess. Much of it just describing time in Africa without substance. Poorly researched and a failing grade on describing why different cultural practices lead to certain outcomes.

Good information, narrator ruined it
Revisado: 01-24-20
The information shared was really interesting. The amount of dialogue the author used was way too much for this type of book and the narrator’s intonation was so cheerful no matter the subject matter and really ruined the audio book.

Narrator is unbearable
Revisado: 01-18-19
I could not get through this because the narrator’s voice is so unbearable. He uses the most ominous creepy tone. Awful. So many good books are ruined this way. I’ll never know with this one because I couldn’t get past the voice. Would love a refund.
