Historia
Mollie Crowley, a 26-year-old Irish unmarried teacher at a one-room schoolhouse in rural Michigan, and 8-year-old Cecilia Pokorski, a Polish girl orphaned after the deaths of her family during the 1918 influenza pandemic, are an unlikely pair. While Cecilia is grieving the loss of her beloved Mamusia, Mollie leans on her own mother, Catherine, for assistance after taking the girl into their home. Mollie loves teaching, but Cecilia hated having Mollie as her first teacher. In their town in rural Michigan, the Irish and the Polish don't mix.

Wonderful story

This story offers insight into how even “good people” can fall prey to feat and bigotry that can easily overshadow their humanity.

Historia
Lady Augusta Colebrook, “Gus,” is determinedly unmarried, bored by society life, and tired of being dismissed at the age of forty-two. She and her twin sister, Julia, who is grieving her dead betrothed, need a distraction. One soon presents itself: to rescue their friend’s goddaughter, Caroline, from her violent husband. The sisters set out to Caroline’s country estate with a plan, but their carriage is accosted by a highwayman. In the scuffle, Gus accidentally shoots and injures the ruffian, only to discover he is Lord Evan Belford, an acquaintance from their past.

Outstanding! Many topics, not usually tackled in historical novels, especially the Regency.
Revisado: 05-18-24
This was the most refreshing regency historical novel I have ever read and I have read hundreds. It’s detail of relationships between siblings, the plight of women of that era and the fact that their entire lives are at risk from the whims of the men in their families. Bravo!

Historia
The year is 1933. Maisie Dobbs is contacted by an Indian gentleman who has come to England in the hopes of finding out who killed his sister two months ago. Scotland Yard failed to make any arrest in the case, and there is reason to believe they failed to conduct a thorough investigation. The case becomes even more challenging when another Indian woman is murdered just hours before a scheduled interview. Meanwhile, unfinished business from a previous case becomes a distraction, as does a new development in Maisie's personal life.

Historia
1992. All across the United States respectable, upstanding citizens are showing up dead. These deaths could be accidents, and they don’t appear to be connected—until a fatal fall from a high-floor window attracts some unexpected attention. That attention comes from the secretary of defense. All of a sudden he wants an interagency task force to investigate. And he wants Jack Reacher as the army’s representative. If Reacher gets a result, great. If not, he’s a convenient fall guy.

Scott Brick was great! Infinitely better than Dick Hill.
Revisado: 11-04-23
This was a really good story that held my interest and had a plot that kept you wondering instead of being obvious. Scott Brick did a really great job reading it as I think he always does. I found Dick Hill bland and flat, forcing me to read Lee Child and Michael Connelly novels that he performed in print instead of on audiobooks. Scott Brick’s style is much more compatible with this story.

Revisado: 08-08-22
Awful plot, despicable characters, except for the recurrent ones. I almost couldn’t finish this but wanted to give it every chance. So not worth it! I DO MISS Robert B Parker!
