Poor narrator and Unrealistic motivations
Revisado: 01-21-24
I loved the first novel in this series and the narrator did a great job. As other reviewers said, I had to get the narration to 1.5 to have it at a normal speaking pace and then much of the emotion dynamics were lost.
Aside from that the protagonist consistently makes unrealistic and irrational choices. These would pull me out of the story because I was baffled by her choices and the reactions to them. The story wasn’t terrible, and I liked how it tracked with the first, but a few changes would have made it more believable. I’m hopeful book 3 is better.

Historia
Still tied to his desk in the Intelligence Office, Colonel Eden Maxwell has become increasingly disenchanted with both Oliver Cromwell and his own daily existence; and with the advent of new Royalist conspiracies, he despairs of ever getting away. Then a brick hurled through the window of a small workshop sets in motion a new and unexpected chain of events. After all, who would want to hurt Lydia Neville—a young widow, giving work and self-respect to maimed war veterans considered unemployable elsewhere?

Excellent, as usual
Revisado: 11-15-23
This series has been a delight to read and this installment is no different. I loved seeing Eden’s redemption and, while other reviewers are giving Lydia a bad rap, I think she is delightful and a wonderful female lead.
Alex Wyndham is unmatched. What a treat.

So Enjoyable
Revisado: 09-08-23
Graham excels at weaving history together with a believable love story. The characters are complex, develop well, and the pacing is good. Alex Wyndham is a master. All in all, a really enjoyable read.

Less graphic love scenes than some of her other works. I really enjoyed it and look forward to reading more.

So much fun
Revisado: 04-09-18
Lift is such a fun character and her story is a lot of fun to follow. I’m glad we got this brief moment to follow her journey and learn more about her, her little void-bringer, the Tashikki people, and other fascinating characters from Roshar. It’s a real treat.
Also, Kate Reading is fabulous as usual.

Took a While to get into it
Revisado: 04-13-15
I wanted to like this story more than I did. I struggled to relate to either of the narrators, and couldn't quite get immersed. The descriptions are wonderful and the women who read the book gave wonderful performances.

Historia
It begins as a statistical oddity: a spike in children born with acute speech delays. Physically normal in every way, these children never speak and do not respond to speech; they don't learn to read, don't learn to write. As the number of cases grows to an epidemic level, theories spread. Maybe it's related to a popular antidepressant; maybe it's environmental. Or maybe these children have special skills all their own.

Interesting Concept; Poorly Executed
Revisado: 02-13-15
What did you like best about The Silent History? What did you like least?
When I read the synopsis of the book, I was really intrigued. I have to say though that the story itself wasn't as good as the concept behind it. I was honestly pretty board a lot of the time and found that the character development was stilted.
Would you be willing to try another book from the authors? Why or why not?
Probably not.
What about Gabra Zackman and LJ Ganser ’s performance did you like?
I thought the performers did a good job. They varied their accents and were consistent. I would listen to them again, for sure.
