The Aftermath of a stunning victory—especially an unexpected, complete, and final victory—should be high-fives all around, listening to politicians give boring congratulatory speeches, and a well-deserved rest for the Merry Band of Pirates. Yes, the galaxy is still a freakin' mess, but that is nothing new, and for a change, that can be someone else's problem. Until, you know, something really bad happens, and only the Pirates can deal with the problem... Or not.

Revisado: 12-20-24
I followed the series for a long time, but it's just getting, too tired. The characters at this point are so familiar I could write the story myself. it's just jarring when at every turn, no matter how advanced the enemy, Skippy will be more more than a match. It seems pretty comical at this point that while Skippy continues to increase his abilities at every turn, he is the only entity that is capable of original thinking. Given tens of millions of years, neither the Elders or the Outsiders have evolved beyond where they were when Skippy started on his own journey. it would be great if just once in the whole series, if our intrepid heroes faced an enemy who has some kind of ability for original thinking.
I guess this should all be expected after the lack of orinality that was shown in the story following the cliffhanger when Skiippy when rouge and abandoned his new friends only to come back groveling for forgiveness, and promising g a new and gentler super being. athe restnas they say is history, a bland boring history.

Was this supposed to be MAGA propaganda?
Revisado: 08-17-23
I'm not sure I get the point of the protagonist. Is he supposed to be the most hated character in the story? I liked the terrorists more than him. Steve spends most of this story setting himself up as a dictator. Every agency of the US government(CIA,FBI,NSA,ect) is portrayed as incompetent or playing politics at the expense of human lives. Environmental groups are ignorant simpiltons unknowingly working for big business. The president is a liberal idiot. Steve decides the politics, religion, economy, ethics, and pretty much everything else for his inbred brethren living on the moon and the rest of mankind via his contol over advanced tech he liberated from the aliens. Any opposing group that displease him he sends drones to kill them, all without consulting anyone else. I guess we're just supposed to accept that this tin plated MAGA moron has the earths best interest in his big old red neck heart.
The stolen alien tech creates another issue for me. I get that you can reverse engineer tech, but there are limits. In this scenario, Steve and his band of ignorant country boys are able to skip all the intermediate levels of technology and engineering that would need to be developed before they could duplicate the tech. It would be like a caveman trying to reverse engineer a pc. The previous owners of the stolen ships conveniently left the computer systems and navigation controls completely unsecured, which seems a little over the top, even for stupid aliens that allow the ship to be stolen in the first place.
If you can get pat the ultra far right slant to this effort, there may be a story buried here somewhere, but I can't find it.

The author should do some research.
Revisado: 06-06-22
Anyone who has any knowledge the military, oh hell, anyone who has even seen an episode of Gomer Pyle, should run away from this monstrosity.
The First Officer in this farce is originally billed as a competent, dedicated officer, what a joke. As first officer, while on a crital mission to save her federation from alien attack, she forms a romantic attachment to a junior officer in her chain of command. This type of relationship is taboo in any military. Then after a tragic attack leaves the Captain on deaths door, our 'dedicated' first officer - now in command, takes a time out for a little 'make out' session with her girl toy. Just to make the already endangered crews moral really soar, she has this little 'kissing session' in full view of, a hopefully distracted, crew, that are trying desperately to repair the ship!
It really is unfortunate that the writer or editors of this mess preffers to pander to the baser parts of human nature. There are actually some worthwhile parts to this this effort. The characters do have some depth(the advantage of a series). The story arc, while not particularly original, moves along at a reasonable rate.
The narrator does a good job with what he has to work with.
Neither of the last two points makes this worth a listen, I gave up and returned it.

wasted opportunity
Revisado: 05-09-22
This reminded me of trailers from 1930's Saturday movies. In the old Buck Rodgers and Rocket Man trailers, the end of one week's episode did not match the actual episode. In the trailer a car with the heros would go off a cliff with everyone seated. In the opening scene the following week we see the hero's escaping BEFORE the car goes off the cliff. This was such a disappoint, a wasted chance to discover something new about Skippy, that it annoyed me for the rest of the audiobook.
There's nothing new here. It's a stock script with nothing much to separate it from the rest of the entries in the series. It's Book 10 the Meh.
Tthe performance, as usuall was spot on. The characters warm and familiar. A decent listen at bed time.

Just can't go on with this tripe.
Revisado: 01-24-22
The story is just too silly to allow for the suspension of disbelief. Our interpid hero and commander can solve the problems of both worlds, but can't figure out why some of the crew want to go home.
The biggest issue I have with this nonsense is Alex allowing all the civians to stay on the ship when he is about to take it into battle. Why would anyone, especially the ultimate genius admiral, risk the lives of so many children for no reason? The parents have no skills that would contribute to the mission, yet he would bring all 82,000 of them and risk not only their own lives, but the rest of the crew by having the ship crowded with well the meaning baggage that the untrained civilians would become during a battle. I can't decide if the author is trying to portray the protagonist as a tyrant in training, or a well meaning fool, and I just can waste any more of my time to find out.

None over the intellectual age of 10 should enter
Revisado: 01-19-22
Enter SUPER ALEX. All women want him, all men want to be him. Hero to all. Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. Alex takes pity on the poor humans of the universe and leads them to victory in battle. Only his namesake Alexander the Great ever accomplished anywhere near this Alex before the age of thirty. A proven genius, he excels not only in mathematics and computer programing(which he did study) , but also military tactics, organization, motivation, leadership, all without any training, and still has time to get the girl. In his spare time he liberates the abused AI's from their bondage to their creul and calus creators. Have no fear gentle reader, he still has room to grow, oh, wait, did I mentions he's also the perfect physical specimen, intimidatingly stronger than any other man, and more hansom than women can resist, so maybe after reaching perfection there is no room. Oh, and he's kind to little children.
Alex is aided by, well, lots of folks, but it doesn't really matter, he don't need the lille folks. I'm sure in the next installment he'll find a way to fly the mother ship and it's fighters at the same time by himself.
In all fairness this is probably intended for an adolescent audience. So, if your into comic books type stuff, this may be right up your alley. My concern for this audience is the lack of action. Much of the time goes into the planning, and constructing the fleet, which is pretty boring for the younger audience.
The basic story line is pretty familiar, earth in decline and sending out arc ships. The ships going to separate systems and evolving at different rates. The concept is fine and if there were a more realistic protagonist and a little more action it could make for an interesting pre sleep entertainment listen, but everytime the protagonist and his trusty sidekick AI single handedly save the day, it get more and more annoying. Until the reader is forced to write a review.
The narrotor does as much as he can, but there is no way to save this for a mature audience.

Oh boy, where to start...
Revisado: 09-02-21
One of the tag lines of this looonng, if not epic effort is 'It should be over, but it isn't.' In retrospect, the author was giving us fair warning.
If the first few chapters dragged on like the last few., this review wouldn't be needed, I would have returned it faster than any chapter runs. Just like the line from one of the Godfather sequals "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!". Their are some good parts here., just not enough to make it worth the price of admittance, which is listening to the whole seemingly unending thing.
In all fairness Mr Haywwod created some interesting characters. The protagonists have some depth and backstories. The milieu is reasonable and more than enough to keep the listener involved. The political environment is entirely plauseable. That what sucks you in. But, there are entire chapters that go on unending tangents that are baffling in their content an length. With a climactic scene thats length is only matched by its confusing dialog and narrative.
Ultimately, the only explanation I can think of for making what is basically a solid, if not mind bendingly original work, into an exercise of will power for the listener, is a simple clerical error. I believe, somehow, the complete, unedited draft of the script was sent by mistake. If this effort was properly edited it would have made for enjoyable 8 or 9 hour distraction. As it is, it's 19 hours of 'buckle up buttercup' your in for a long ride!

Sneakily entertaining
Revisado: 08-15-21
I was into the second part before I stopped to think about the plot or characters, that's high praise from me. The story moves along at just the right pace to keep the readers interest. The action scenes do not get in the way of the story. Most of this, I'm sure, is by now any reader of the series knows the cast of characters well enough that they do not have to stop and analyze their actions and decisions, so suspending disbelief become second nature. I would not recommend this book as the first foray into the series,, it assumes that you're up to date.
I envy the protagonist, he moves on to the next adventure with no concern for the wrecage and mayhem he causes along the way. Secure in the knowledge he did the right thing, and ignoring any evidence to the contrary.
I don't know how Mr Boyett keeps the energy level up after so many entries to the series. His portrayal of the the characters is as crisp as the first. This is another excellent effort on his part and allows the reader to slip effortlessly back into the the world of B. V. Larson.

Historia
Civil war looms in the Bobiverse in this brand-new, epic-length adventure by Audible number one best seller Dennis E. Taylor. More than a hundred years ago, Bender set out for the stars and was never heard from again. There has been no trace of him despite numerous searches by his clone-mates. Now Bob is determined to organize an expedition to learn Bender’s fate - whatever the cost. But nothing is ever simple in the Bobiverse. Bob’s descendants are out to the 24th generation now, and replicative drift has produced individuals who can barely be considered Bobs anymore.

Another great entry to the series
Revisado: 09-27-20
It's kinda amazing for me. I love the combinationn of light adventure and philosophy. It's one of the few books that found a brilliant way to follow the rules of physics and still provide a thourouly enjoyable experience. I get tired of the 'wormhole' and 'hyper drive' etc., that do not have any basis in any theory. Space is big, and most authors simply take the easy way out and ignore that fact. Instead Mr. Taylor uses it to his advantage to create a complex milu that spans the glalxy, and is therfore able to combine the concepts of terraforming seemlelessly into the adventures. I will admit that being the forth book in the series, I think I need to make myaelf a cheat sheet of characters and locations. I have to stop occasionally to remember which Bob is which and from which adventure, but that's part of the fun of a series like this.
Mr. Taylor references 'Skippy' from Expeditionary Force series.(Those who don't know that series should check it out.) another character I've enjoyed. But Bobs have the edge here. Skippy has to change over the course of the series and sometimes not fo the better. Bobs just create another Bob. Whether you love him or hate him doesn't matter, there's always another Bob on the horizon.
Another great effort by Mr. Porter. I wonder, though if multiple performers might make the experience better. With so many characters to portray, some of the accents tend to wonder off a bit and become something of a distraction.
The only major issue I had with this adventure was not being able to put it down. I wanted to make it last a week and didn't even get close.
I don't know if there are more to come in this series, but I sure hope so!
