Historia
Opal is a lot of things—orphan, high school dropout, full-time cynic and part-time cashier—but above all, she's a determined to find a better life for her younger brother Jasper. One that gets them out of Eden, Kentucky, a town remarkable for only two things: bad luck and E. Starling, the reclusive nineteenth century author of The Underland, who disappeared over a hundred years ago. All she left behind were dark rumors—and her home. Everyone agrees that it’s best to ignore the uncanny mansion and its misanthropic heir, Arthur. Almost everyone, anyway.

Exquisite. Read it in the dark.
Revisado: 10-31-23
Beautiful and eery. Harrow paints a gothic landscape with a mansion worthy of Shirley Jackson. The performance is spot on. The story is relatively simple, but not predictable. Enjoy.

Beautiful, funny and original
Revisado: 10-30-21
This lovely story is not the romance you might assume by the title. There is love, but only through the mind and physical restraint. It is beautifully written and very witty. The story is simple and the characters rich. I highly recommend it. If you’re a fan of the movie, there are differences, but overall the spirit is the same in both.

Alice's only lead is the message her mother left behind: "Stay away from the Hazel Wood."

Original and Brilliant
Revisado: 03-19-19
Albert has created a brilliantly dark world in which fairy tales are real and you don’t want to meet one. Her prose are original; her story is a fresh take on coming-of-age.
Albert has earned a place in the ranks of Rowling, Brooks, Jordan and Sanderson. She is not to be missed.

Historia
A middle-aged man returns to his childhood home to attend a funeral. He is drawn to the farm at the end of the road, where, when he was seven, he encountered a most remarkable girl, Lettie Hempstock. Forty years earlier, a man committed suicide in a stolen car at this farm at the end of the road. Like a fuse on a firework, his death lit a touchpaper and resonated in unimaginable ways. The darkness was unleashed, something scary and thoroughly incomprehensible to a little boy. And Lettie - magical, comforting, wise beyond her years - promised to protect him, no matter what.

Perfection
Revisado: 06-11-18
This may be the closest to perfection a story can be. The structure of the narrative is fresh and well thought out.
Combinations of realism and magic swim together to form beauty and horror. Gaiman’s performance serves to enhance the work as only an author with a beautiful voice can.

Cliffhanger but excellent
Revisado: 07-25-15
Normally I don't like cliffhangers, however I realized that Hale literally told the story of the Gathering. And it is an excellent story. Keep in mind that this is a middle novel of a trilogy. Overall I love this book and can't wait to read the conclusion to this phenomenal trilogy.

Historia
The assassination of heroes was once a warning... for an invasion that nearly destroyed the world. Nations were slaughtered, cities were erased from existence, and defending armies were crushed into oblivion. In weeks, all life stood on the verge of extinction. But the end did not come. Instead the black horde vanished, leaving terrified survivors... and rumors. As the centuries passed the holocaust faded into legend, and finally myth. Across the southern sea a gifted young man is completing his training.

I love this book. It is an excellent beginning to a traditional fantasy, save the world story. It is clean and well thought out. The characters are fun and engaging.

Historia
Early in 1495, Leonardo da Vinci began work in Milan on what would become one of history's most influential and beloved works of art - The Last Supper. After a dozen years at the court of Lodovico Sforza, the Duke of Milan, Leonardo was at a low point personally and professionally: at 43, in an era when he had almost reached the average life expectancy, he had failed, despite a number of prestigious commissions, to complete anything that truly fulfilled his astonishing promise.

Ross King is the best at making non-fiction material read like a novel. While this story is full of solid research and scholarship it is also an enjoyable read.

The story was quite different. It was very good for a second book in a trilogy. I was satisfied with the end. But due to a few unexplained choices I can't quite give it 5 stars.

Historia
Quentin Coldwater is brilliant but miserable. A senior in high school, he's still secretly preoccupied with a series of fantasy novels he read as a child, set in a magical land called Fillory. Imagine his surprise when he finds himself unexpectedly admitted to a very secret, very exclusive college of magic in upstate New York, where he receives a thorough and rigorous education in the craft of modern sorcery.

Excellent but I'm not in love.
Revisado: 01-19-15
Grossman is a true wordsmith. He's witty and crafts a beautiful phrase. The story was good, but there wasn't a single character that fell in love with. In the end I will definitely keep going in the series and hope that the characters become more interesting.
