Great story, reader is a little much
Revisado: 01-11-23
I love Walter Moers's stories. They're full of interesting characters and imaginative plots.
I do wish someone would just read the book rather than try to "perform" all the characters.
Still, I was able to enjoy the story (the characters voices were not as bad as Dandelion was in Rumo).

Historia
Optimus Yarnspinner inherits from his godfather an unpublished manuscript by an unknown writer and sets off to track down the mysterious author, who disappeared into Bookholm - the so-called City of Dreaming Books. Yarnspinner falls under the spell of this book-obsessed metropolis, where an avid reader and budding author can find any number of charming attractions: priceless signed first editions, salivating literary agents, and for-hire critics.

Inventive Moers, not quite Rumo
Revisado: 10-27-22
the story stalled at times, and the reader was a bit over animated, but by the end of it I enjoyed the story's unique creativity. the author likes his tangents but they all fit together by the end to add to the bigger story.

Big concepts. Stale storytelling.
Revisado: 07-15-20
I forced myself to finish this for the sake of checking off a box. It was hard to get past the tired dialogue, steady stream of caricatures, and expected sequences of each part of the story. Also, there's only one woman character in the entire book. 1951 style science fiction.

Historia
From New York Times business reporter Nelson D. Schwartz comes a gripping investigation of how a virtual velvet rope divides Americans in every arena of life, creating a friction-free existence for those with money on one side and a Darwinian struggle for the middle class on the other side.

eye opening

I expected to hear about first class on airplanes, but I kept realizing how experiences I've had fit into this pattern of inequality.
I'm very grateful for the last chapter and I hope that more companies follow the examples set by the likes of Southwest and the GB Packers.

Historia
After more than a decade, when sisters Nikki, Sami, and Tori Knotek hear the word mom, it claws like an eagle’s talons, triggering memories that have been their secret since childhood. Until now. For years, behind the closed doors of their farmhouse in Raymond, Washington, their sadistic mother, Shelly, subjected her girls to unimaginable abuse, degradation, torture, and psychic terrors. Through it all, Nikki, Sami, and Tori developed a defiant bond that made them far less vulnerable than Shelly imagined.

“Why didn’t they tell?”
Revisado: 03-19-20
Before reading this book I took a moment to read some of the low star reviews of the book. Now that I have finished I can tell that some of the unhappy readers obviously did not pay attention to most of the content and definitely did not stick it out to hear the Afterword by a literal doctor of psychology. Children in these kinds of situations don’t tell for a reason. We need to respond with empathy and not judgement. We need to read these kinds of stories - despite them being “way too graphic” or my least favorite descriptor in the other reviews “depressing - because human beings should bear witness when atrocities happen to others. We are all responsible to make the environment around us easier for people - especially children - to come forward. Imagine someone right now going through what the Noteck sisters went through reading your review of a story very similar to what they are going through and only finding that you find it “depressing.” On a more superficial note, I didn’t give 5 stars because I’m picky about narration. Didn’t love the way dialogue was presented. But very glad I read, so I could understand better what survivors go through and have more gratitude for my home life and for the people working to stop things like this from happening and help those who are suffering.

Historia
Neal Stephenson is a blazing new force on the sci-fi scene. With the groundbreaking cyberpunk novel Snow Crash, he has "vaulted onto the literary stage." It weaves virtual reality, Sumerian myth, and just about everything in between with a cool, hip cybersensibility - in short, it is the gigathriller of the information age.

kinda overproduced, but fantastic story.

I had to get used to the funky 90s sounds and production. Totally worth it for how interesting and exciting this turned out to be.
