Historia
In the 1960s, Mao launched China’s Cultural Revolution. Cities grew overcrowded. Technocrats demanded progress from above. Anyone opposed was sent to be “re-educated.” China’s revolution was bloody, fast, and a failure, but what if America started a revolution at the same time, based on the same bad ideas, and it’s just been slower, calmer, and more effective?

In the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump and many around him, including certain other elected Republican officials, intentionally breached their oath to the Constitution: they ignored the rulings of dozens of courts, plotted to overturn a lawful election, and provoked a violent attack on our Capitol.

Historia
Not so very long ago, Yuletide was as much a chilling season of ghosts and witches as it was a festival of goodwill. In The Old Magic of Christmas, you'll rub elbows with veiled spirits, learn the true perils of elves, and discover a bestiary of enchanted creatures. Rife with the more frightful characters from folklore and the season's most petulant ghosts, this book takes you on a spooky sleigh ride from the silvered firs of a winter forest to the mirrored halls of the Snow Queen.

Dark Magic
Revisado: 12-12-22
Linda Raedisch’s tales of Christmas past are a bit darker than our modern Christmas tales and traditions which nonetheless often still bear the shadows of the ancient Yuletide pagan religions. The recipes and crafts dispersed throughout are worth being scared half to death by an unsavory cast of witches, goblins, werewolves, spirits and chimeras. Chloe Cannon narrates with a perfect seriousness and a good humored wink so that we don’t approach the treacherous magic of Christmas with too great an apprehension but with a prudent nod to the mistletoe.

Reads like a suspense thriller!
Revisado: 03-27-21
Even though at this point we know what the outcome is going to be, nonetheless you’ll be biting your nails as the election tallies slowly roll in state by state. The authors have captured well the personalities of the key players especially the presidential candidates themselves. I appreciated that even though Trump is so often his own caricature, the authors themselves never caricature the ex-president or Republicans. I hope Democrats keep in mind how close this election was and how lucky their candidate, so as not to lose the second round.

Historia
In this candid memoir, Olivia Hussey tells her story - from being an "It Girl" in swinging '60s London and her enduring friendship with Romeo & Juliet costar Leonard Whiting, through three tumultuous marriages - including one with Dean Martin's son, Dino - motherhood, stage-four breast cancer, debilitating agoraphobia, bankruptcy, and ultimately, a journey of self-discovery in India that led her on a path to fulfillment. Featuring a foreword by her star-making director Franco Zeffirelli, Olivia Hussey's memoir shines with her luminous spirit and perseverance.

My lovely teenaged Juliet
Revisado: 10-14-20
Direct, simple, honest, charming, just like her famous portrayal of Juliet. Warmth and good humor combined with rich spiritual experience. Her straight forward description of her experience with cancer helps the reader to better understand that experience without sentiment but with hope. One finishes the book happy that someone like Ms. Hussey was gracious enough to share her life with us, on and off screen.

Historia
In the winter of 1918, at the height of World War I, history's most lethal influenza virus erupted in an army camp in Kansas, moved east with American troops, then exploded, killing as many as 100 million people worldwide. It killed more people in 24 weeks than AIDS has killed in 24 years, more in a year than the Black Death killed in a century. But this was not the Middle Ages, and 1918 marked the first collision between modern science and epidemic disease.

Prophetic
Revisado: 06-05-20
Frightening prophecy of our current pandemic, yet there is nothing supernatural about the author’s foresight. A simple scientific and historical analysis of the dangers and the past mistakes of our responses to influenza pandemics makes our current crisis all too predictable, especially the lack of truthful information from our own and world governments.

Historia
Daniel's story is one of extraordinary faith in God lived out at the pinnacle of executive power. It tells of four teenage friends, born in the tiny state of Judah about 26 centuries ago, but captured by Nebuchadnezzar, emperor of Babylon. Daniel describes how they eventually rose to the top echelons of administration. Daniel and his friends did not simply maintain their private devotion to God; they maintained a high-profile witness in a pluralistic society antagonistic to their faith.

New insights into historicity of Daniel
Revisado: 12-29-19
Provides new insights into the historicity of Daniel. Narrator is at first off-putting due to his ungrammatical pronunciations of gerunds and his mispronunciations of “subsequently” and other words, but his tone grew on me through the book and I enjoyed his voice.
