Historia
Erebus Resort, occupying a magnificent, hundred-thousand acre valley deep in the Colorado Rockies, offers guests the experience of viewing woolly mammoths, Irish Elk, and giant ground sloths in their native habitat, brought back from extinction through the magic of genetic manipulation. When a billionaire's son and his new wife are kidnapped and murdered in the Erebus back country by what is assumed to be a gang of eco-terrorists, Colorado Bureau of Investigation Agent Frances Cash partners with county sheriff James Colcord to track down the perpetrators.

A great beach read
Revisado: 02-18-25
Started out a bit slow but gathered speed in the middle and rounded into a very enjoyable ending. Some good plot twists kept this a very refreshing read.

Ambassador Mahit Dzmare arrives in the center of the multi-system Teixcalaanli Empire only to discover that her predecessor, the previous ambassador from their small but fiercely independent mining station, has died. But no one will admit that his death wasn't an accident - or that Mahit might be next to die, during a time of political instability in the highest echelons of the imperial court. Now, Mahit must discover who is behind the murder, rescue herself, and save her station from Teixcalaan's unceasing expansion.

Slowly builds up to a good ending
Revisado: 09-30-24
The world building was good but took too long to de slip for my taste. It makes sense that this is book 1 of a continuing story. The last few chapters were great reading but the journey there couldn’t quite save it.

What every lover dreads
Revisado: 06-19-24
The performer did a great job of conveying the constant state of anxiety our protagonist lived in, the problem was that I simply didn’t care. Perhaps it’s my state of overconfidence and cluelessness but I found her constant second guessing and lack of faith in the bond of the relationship annoyingly and irritating. The epilogue did nothing to help, in fact it made it worse. Not my cup of tea.

Marvel Entertainment was a moribund toymaker not even twenty years ago. Today, Marvel Studios is the dominant player both in Hollywood and in global pop culture. How did an upstart studio conquer the world? In MCU, beloved culture writers Joanna Robinson, Dave Gonzales, and Gavin Edwards draw on more than a hundred interviews with actors, producers, directors, and writers to present the definitive chronicle of Marvel Studios and its sole ongoing production, the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

How the Sausage was made
Revisado: 06-13-24
I appreciated the behind the scenes info, history and context of the MCU. As a comic geek in my 50’s, watching some of my favorite stories come to life was a dream come true and I loved reading how much of it came to be. Joanna and Dave knew the stories that would resonate and it made for a wonderful listen.

Historia
As the ash and chaos from Mount Rainier’s eruption swirled and finally settled, the story of the Greenloop massacre has passed unnoticed, unexamined...until now. The journals of resident Kate Holland, recovered from the town’s bloody wreckage, capture a tale too harrowing - and too earth-shattering in its implications - to be forgotten. In this audiobook, Max Brooks brings Kate’s extraordinary account to light for the first time, faithfully reproducing her words alongside his own extensive investigations into the massacre and the legendary beasts behind it.

There’s an animal in all of us
Revisado: 04-11-24
I loved this book, starting with Judy Greers narration and listening as the tension slowly ramped up I hated every time I reached a destination and had to stop listening. The characters are well written and the inevitable incursion from the animals leads to a very satisfying ending.

Good for a long drive
Revisado: 09-27-23
There was a lot of build-up with relatively little payoff. Good plotting, solid characters and a decent narrative but at the end I was left a bit underwhelmed. I think the general lack of action might have something to do with it but either way, it’s a good listen if you need something to pass the time.

Historia
In Ejaculate Responsibly, Gabrielle Blair offers a provocative reframing of the abortion issue in post-Roe America. In a series of 28 brief arguments, she deftly makes the case for moving the abortion debate away from controlling and legislating women’s bodies and instead directs the focus on men’s lack of accountability in preventing unwanted pregnancies. The result is a compelling and convincing case for placing the responsibility—and burden—of preventing unwanted pregnancies away from women and onto men.

Can’t argue with the logic
Revisado: 01-18-23
The sense in this book is so common that it’s embarrassing it has to be written down. Men taking more responsibility in the area of reproduction is something that should happen and this book details why.

Historia
Deep in the California woods on an evening in late August, Jane Pearson is camping with her husband, Leo, and their five-year-old son, Benjamin. As dusk sets in, she drifts softly to sleep in a hammock strung outside the tent where Leo and Benjamin are preparing for bed. At that moment, every single person with a Y chromosome vanishes around the world, disappearing from operating theaters mid-surgery, from behind the wheels of cars, from arguments and acts of love. Children, adults, even fetuses are gone in an instant. Leo and Benjamin are gone. No one knows why, how, or where.

I came to this expecting sci-fi and this isn’t that genre at all, however it was a well crafted meditation on gender, race and privilege through a female lens. A fast listen that I found thought provoking.

A Truly Original Story
Revisado: 05-25-21
I loved the premise and the deliberate pacing of the story. My only quibble is that there were several chapters that were not as compelling to me and could have been omitted but I felt the end brought things together neatly and with a deft touch. Came here due to his work on the Magnus Archives and I look forward to more from Mr. Sims.
