Historia
History called on Harry Truman to unite the Western world against Soviet communism, but first he had to rally Republicans and Democrats behind America’s most dramatic foreign policy shift since George Washington delivered his farewell address. How did one of the least prepared presidents to walk into the Oval Office become one of its most successful?

Focus on Greece civil war after WWII
Revisado: 03-21-21
Good book, good narration. Surprised it focused on Greece and Turkey and standing up to Communism there rather than the Korean conflict (which is what I expected). The Truman doctrine became the guiding foreign policy of the US for 70 years. Peace was secured by Truman, Dean Acheson, Vandenberg, Marshall plan and formation of NATO.

Historia
Yuval Noah Harari's 21 Lessons for the 21st Century is a probing and visionary investigation into today's most urgent issues as we move into the uncharted territory of the future. As technology advances faster than our understanding of it, hacking becomes a tactic of war, and the world feels more polarized than ever, Harari addresses the challenge of navigating life in the face of constant and disorienting change and raises the important questions we need to ask ourselves in order to survive.

Algorithms, Meaning, and Meditation
Revisado: 01-31-21
When he was talking about the impact AI artificial intelligence was going to have on society, I thought, gee I guess he means in 10-15 years. Wrong! Then I watched the documentary, " the Social Dilema" and realized, it's already happening. Social media Algorithms are pushing us further into our political bubbles and contributing to the rancorous political polarization we now have in the United States.
I particularly liked the last two chapters on Meaning and Meditation. Very clearly makes the case for understanding one's mind before the algorithms make it up for you.

A time gone by
Revisado: 09-27-20
Wonderful story. Sad. Characters are well developed. I remember fountain pens. They were just being supplanted by ball points when I got in elementary school. The desks all had ink wells. But as elementary school students we only got to use pencils. But I had fountain pens with cartridges later. All shops with pens driven to oblivion by. Staples and others. Quaint how the stationer acted as a conduit for love notes and political leaflets. Later, didn't cassette tapes spread Ayotolah Khomeini's philosophy in Iran and bring about the 1979 ouster of the Shah?

Historia
In Three Stations, Arkady Renko’s skills are put to their most severe test. Though he has been technically suspended from the prosecutor’s office for once again turning up unpleasant truths, he strives to solve a last case: the death of an elegant young woman whose body is found in a construction trailer on the perimeter of Moscow’s main rail hub. It looks like a simple drug overdose to everyone—except to Renko, whose examination of the crime scene turns up some inexplicable clues.

Another Arkady Renko window into life in Russia
Revisado: 11-22-17
Great narration. Plenty of atmosphere about Russia and its rich oligarchs. Storyline a little bit confused when street urchins adopt the baby.

A Dream of the future
Revisado: 09-29-17
I loved the exploration of many futuristic issues like cloned vs. clone psychological issues, genetic modifications of humans to live on Mars and on Space Voyages. Well done, a good "read" nicely performed.
