Historia
Poul Anderson's novel The Broken Sword draws on similar Scandinavian and Anglo-Saxon sources as The Fellowship of the Ring. In his greed for land and power, Orm the Strong slays the family of a Saxon witch-and for his sins, the Northman must pay with his newborn son. Stolen by elves and replaced by a changeling, Skafloc is raised to manhood unaware of his true heritage and treasured for his ability to handle the iron that the elven dare not touch. Meanwhile, the being who supplanted him as Orm's son grows up angry and embittered by the humanity he has been denied.

Pulpy, shallow, but fun! If I had read this in my early teens I would have loved it. As is I'd only recommend to hard-core fans of pulpy Conan or Norse style novels.

Frank Cotton's insatiable appetite for the dark pleasures of pain led him to the puzzle of Lemarchand's box, and from there, to a death only a sick-minded soul could invent. But his brother's love-crazed wife, Julia, has discovered a way to bring Frank back - though the price will be bloody and terrible...and there will certainly be hell to pay.

best Gothic horror story ever
Revisado: 08-20-21
Perversion, sex, gore, gluttony, last, pain, and Hell. the story doesn't overstay its welcome and it's tightly wound lore keeps you immersed until the final moments.

Historia
The men onboard HMS Terror have every expectation of finding the Northwest Passage. When the expedition's leader, Sir John Franklin, meets a terrible death, Captain Francis Crozier takes command and leads his surviving crewmen on a last, desperate attempt to flee south across the ice. But as another winter approaches, as scurvy and starvation grow more terrible, and as the Terror on the ice stalks them southward, Crozier and his men begin to fear there is no escape.

excellent survival story with a hint of horror
Revisado: 11-30-18
mostly grounded, brutal survival story of the men of HMS Terror & Erabus, with a sprinkling of horror with the supernatural creature stalking them on the ice. the ending was a bit too neat and tidy for me, but I loved the arduous tale of 1840s arctic survival (and lots of death)

It has been 40 years since the publication of this classic science-fiction novel that changed the way we look at the stars and ourselves. From the savannas of Africa at the dawn of mankind to the rings of Saturn as man adventures to the outer rim of our solar system, 2001: A Space Odyssey is a journey unlike any other.

Amazing story but slightly dry performance.
Revisado: 12-19-17
It takes some time to get used to the performance as it's a bit dull, but the book itself is amazing.
