Historia
'All the men I did get to know, every single one of them, has filled me with but one desire: to lift my hand and bring it smashing down on his face. But because I am a woman, I have never had the courage to lift my hand. And because I am a prostitute, I hid my fear under layers of make-up.' So begins Firdaus' story, leading to her grimy Cairo prison cell, where she welcomes her death sentence as a relief from her pain and suffering.

Historia
Knowledge is a big subject, says Stuart Firestein, but ignorance is a bigger one. And it is ignorance - not knowledge - that is the true engine of science. Most of us have a false impression of science as a surefire, deliberate, step-by-step method for finding things out and getting things done. In fact, says Firestein, more often than not, science is like looking for a black cat in a dark room, and there may not be a cat in the room.

Every scientist should read this book! Accessible to none scientists and none experts. The author really does an amazing job explaining the process of doing science and what science is really about. Loved this book!

Quite shallow for what it promises
Revisado: 07-06-19
If you had never thought about yourself and your life or career deeply, then this book is a good start. I personally found it quite shallow for a book that promises to go deep. But I have to admit, it was a good reminder. The book is full of metaphors reflecting the author point of view. I was hoping for more tangible advice about how to think beyond our boundaries. I wish also he left God out of his conclusion.
I was not a big fun of patriarchal comments such as (I'm rephrasing) "I want my son to shake hands like a man", "no body is going to hire him because he knows how to high five". I am hoping by the time his son is old enough to get a job, we won't have anymore people hiring you because you know how to "shake hands like a man". Hopefully, you will get hired because you are competent not because you meet some outdated stereotypical measure of manhood.
