Historia
For almost 30 years, Susan Burton hid her obsession with food and the secret life of compulsive eating and starving that dominated her adolescence. This is the relentlessly honest, fiercely intelligent story of living with both anorexia and binge-eating disorder, moving past her shame, and learning to tell her secret.

Worthwhile story and writing, but the vocal fry ...uhhh
Revisado: 02-16-25
Such a relatable story and well written. As a 1992 college graduate- the obsession with and value of thinness is understandable for me.
The story is worth the irritating narration. But I think the narrator needs to clear her throat.
Sometimes getting a narrator is the right call if you can't overcome the crackle/ vocal fry in your voice.

I binge listened to this audible original- it was amazing and I always enjoy a chance to hear Emily Bauer. (Full disclosure: our kids played together when they were very little 😊) Anyhow: it was a great story, narration was excellent all around and I highly recommend this listen.

Historia
For Kate Klein, suburbia's been full of unpleasant surprises. Her once-loving husband is hardly ever home. The supermommies on the playground routinely snub her. Her days are spent carpooling, and at night, most of her orgasms are of the do-it-yourself variety. So when a fellow mother is murdered, Kate finds that the unsolved mystery is one of the most interesting things to happen in Upchurch. She launches an unofficial investigation with the help of two friends and discovers the secrets and lies behind the town's placid picket-fence facade....

Narrator should not have a southern accent!
Revisado: 05-03-22
I enjoy Weiner’s books. This is not my favorite title of hers. The narrator is the wrong choice as well. Her southern sounding accent does not match the Northeastern rooted voice of the main character.

Revisado: 11-13-21
Dear Jane Stanton Hitchcock,
I love the character of Jo Slater- voiced by the soothing, smooth tones of Barbara Rosenblatt. I just finished a repeat listen and wonder how Jo is doing today. Or maybe some of her pals? If you’re seeing this: the NY social scene portrait that you write about is so much fun and even though terrible things do happen, it’s an amazing slice of life. Thanks for all of the entertainment. To audible listeners:
I highly recommend this book.

Historia
Once Donald Trump’s fiercest surrogate, closest confidant, and staunchest defender, Michael Cohen knows where the skeletons are buried. This is the most devastating business and political horror story of the century. As Trump’s lawyer and “fixer”, Cohen not only witnessed firsthand but was also an active participant in the inner workings of Trump’s business empire, political campaign, and presidential administration.

The narrator does an excellent job- he doesn’t sound like the course Trump sycophant author I feared might be chosen as the reader. Michael Cohen is a liar and a crook— but his story is highly consistent with all of the biographical information I’ve read about Donald Trump. Buy this important book- not to support Michael Cohen, but to assure this information gets out to the public.

Peter Giles- yay!!!!!!
Revisado: 05-30-20
I am still reading 'Fair Warning'- but I wanted to post this review for any of my fellow Michael Connelly fans who exclusively listen to his books on audio. Peter Giles is such a relief from the monotone delivery of Titus Welliver. I own virtually every MC title on Audible, but listening to an excellent narrator like Giles or Len Cariou makes all the difference. If you're hesitating and have never heard a Peter Giles narration- get this book. Of course- it's certainly been a good read so far and MC always tells a pretty interesting story.

Great psychological thriller! Totally enjoyable.
Revisado: 12-14-17
What made the experience of listening to The Secrets She Keeps the most enjoyable?
While there are no 'new' stories, and this book isn't necessarily built on an original idea: if you enjoy psychological thrillers-- you will find this book to be a great ride.
It does take a bit to warm up, but I was interested throughout and found the entire story gripping. The narration was excellent as well.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I actually didn't find too many characters 'likable.' That's one flaw of the book, but at the same time, this book is about the 'secrets' we keep and so flaws are on bright display.
What about Lucy Price-Lewis’s performance did you like?
I could usually tell the transition from character to character.
Any additional comments?
The most distracting detail of the book is that some of the characters' names are literally reminiscent of other recent books in the genre (If I'm remembering correctly: 'Meghan' is a character in "Girl on the Train" and is a prominent character in this book too. I think of of the police detectives had a similar name to another book I've just read too.) Nevertheless-- I highly recommend this book as an owner of over 100 Audible titles! It is a great ride and gripping--believe the review of Stephen King.
