I really appreciated how Yanis explained the concept of technofeudalism and how we turned into cloud serfs. I sort of got lost in the details of his proposed solutions but understood them at a high level. I would need to buy the book as it was a little difficult to follow the audio book without full concentration (ie listening while on a treadmill)

I bought the Audible version to pass the time during my beach vacation. The rendition is a faithful representation of the written words.

The story was written from the perspective of 16-year old Hazel, whose thyroid cancer has spread to her lungs. She meets Augustus, a good-looking blue-eyed cancer survivor and they fall in love. Puppy love or not, first love is something that we all have experienced. Greene’s depiction of first love between Hazel and Gus will be reminiscent of our experience of first love and youthful passion, absent the literary wit, and raw sophistication.of the characters. If they were older, you could almost imagine Ryan O’Neal and Ali McGraw in Love Story when they first met The chapters on Hazel and Gus’ times together, including the consummation of their love in Amsterdam, are Greene’s beautiful memorialization of their piece of infinity.

Despite being an amputee, and thus, not completely “whole,” Gus seemed to me more whole than Hazel and he made her whole when they met and fell in love. For some reason, her cynicism and her part agnostic, part-atheistic part- fatalistic self did not quite resonate with me. On the other hand, Gus was more down-to-earth and more true-to-life with exciting spontaneity, despite the conceited self-assuredness of his ways.

Although there will be many times when you will shed a few tears while reading or listening to this book, the ultimate tear jerker for me is Chapter 24 which describes survivorhood. I will say no more to avoid spoiling the experience. Chapter 25 is a poignant but tender reminder of the consequences, intended or unintended, of loving and being loved by someone of one’s own choice. This book is for young adults and the young at heart and the hopelessly romantic among us who know that true love transcends age and time.
