Historia
1936, Shreveport, Louisiana: Pretty young New Yorker Miriam Levenson finds herself here employed in the only job she can get - interviewing the elderly for the Roosevelt Administration’s Federal Writers Project. Among the people she meets are an aging Civil War hero, a French muralist and his common-law wife, and a 95-year-old Irish immigrant named Bridget Fenerty, a woman who has known tragedy and refused to buckle under it. Winter turns to spring, and Miriam finds there are people in this town who have secrets. And as she is followed by a mysterious man in a black Cadillac, Miriam finds that she, too, has a secret.

Loved the Dual Stories Throughout
Revisado: 12-09-22
I don’t often write reviews, so this will be short. I truly loved the two stories being told the way they were. It was fascinating the way the author interwove both stories into a back and forth style. I also enjoyed the little surprises in the storyline(s). It was a great book, and I recommend!

First Podcast - Love Spade & Carvey!
Revisado: 01-13-22
I know I’m behind the times of listening to podcasts, BUT I’ve never gone that direction until now. After seeing David Spade recently on the Jimmy Kimmel show, talking about this podcast, I thought “What the hell. Sounds like a good premise (all SNL related guests), might as well tune in.” I’ve been watching SNL since the beginning, so this podcast is obviously something that would appeal to me. And, it did! I’ve always been a fan of Spade and Carvey, and listening to them talk to other like minded people, swapping old war stories about SNL, among other things, is completely entertaining and quite hilarious. Thank you guys for bringing this series out to the public at large. And thank you for my deflowering re my first podcast! I look forward to following this podcast for however long it runs!

Book As Written Not Put Together Well
Revisado: 07-29-21
As the title to my summary indicates, I don’t think this book was put together well. It was very frustrating to hear all of the minute details that the author included, to realize that that they were not needed and only served to cloud up the fractured storyline. The book skipped around so much, went backwards, then skipped forward…I got lost many times. I would go back and re-listen to chapters in order to get my bearings, and when I could not, I moved on. Oddly enough, I decided to listen to the entire book over again (I never do this!) to see if it would make better sense to me. It seemed like an interesting story overall, when I thought about it, but not so much when I read it. If written correctly, as a screenplay, I believe it would make an excellent, almost unbelievable movie.

Fascinating!
Revisado: 07-23-21
This was a fascinating book about Trump and his fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants administration. It was amazing to read the details about, and how, the administration worked its way around the issues, as well as the made-up issues, that they wanted to support. It is frustrating for a full-on Democrat, such as myself, to know what went on, and then find out that things were actually worse than originally thought. I am sure this thought is true for many anti-Trumpers. I appreciate this author’s accounting of the truth about Trump and his thrown together administration!

Lovely Story!
Revisado: 12-02-20
This was a lovely, interwoven story that made me wonder what might be unpeeled with every chapter. The narrator was perfect, and I look forward to listening to her again, as well as listening to more books by this author.
