Historia
In this revolutionary book, renowned physician Gabor Maté eloquently dissects how in Western countries that pride themselves on their healthcare systems, chronic illness and general ill health are on the rise. Nearly 70 percent of Americans are on at least one prescription drug; more than half take two. In Canada, every fifth person has high blood pressure. In Europe, hypertension is diagnosed in more than 30 percent of the population. And everywhere, adolescent mental illness is on the rise. So what is really “normal” when it comes to health?

A very important book to read about our time.
Revisado: 12-17-22
Gabór Maté writes with a clear and strong voice, speaking with truth and integrity as he opens the eyes of the listener/reader to the ways of this "normal" world we have come to slumber in. Thank you so much for this gift!

Historia
Mike Daisey is a fierce storyteller, one minute hilarious, the next minute sweet, with a fine-tuned ear for digression. He circles in on his uneasy subject matter, closer and closer, until he exposes the raw heart. The New York Times calls him "the master storyteller" and he has been compared to Garrison Keillor, Spalding Gray, and David Sedaris.

I love listening to Daisey. He's cerebral, witty, crude, and high-minded all at the same time. Bravo!

Historia
As a botanist and professor of plant ecology, Robin Wall Kimmerer has spent a career learning how to ask questions of nature using the tools of science. As a Potawatomi woman, she learned from elders, family, and history that the Potawatomi, as well as a majority of other cultures indigenous to this land, consider plants and animals to be our oldest teachers.

A call to participation
Revisado: 11-04-18
I love the living way native and western thinking are melded. My favorite chapters are the one about the three sisters, and the one describing the native language, which doesn't have nouns. The language is activity oriented, rather than objects oriented. The book is a call to participation in the natural world through human activity.

Relativity of Einstein

Historia
In "Relativity: The Special and the General Theory", Einstein describes the theories that made him famous, illuminating his case with numerous examples and a smattering of math (nothing more complex than high-school algebra). Einstein's book is not casual reading, but for those who appreciate his work without diving into the arcana of theoretical physics, Relativity will prove a stimulating read.

This book needs to be re-recorded.
Revisado: 12-07-14
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Not until it's re-recorded (see below). I would definitely recommend the Kindle or paper version, or perhaps Learning Ally has a better recording for their subscribers.
What didn’t you like about Jason McCoy’s performance?
This narrator does not use the correct words for the mathematical notation. For instance, he says, "k to the first" instead of "k prime." It's not an exponent. He also mispronounces even common words like "continuum" and "analogous." There are other instances of both types of error. This book should be re-recorded by someone familiar with mathematical notation and with better reading skills. In my opinion, based on my experience recording books long ago, a book for sale should be recorded in the presence of someone who listens and checks and re-records when mistakes are made. For this book, the checker also needs a minimum level of scientific or mathematical, and language arts, background in order for the book to be successful.
Did Relativity of Einstein inspire you to do anything?
I am inspired to go back and spend more time understanding the details. I will need to see the equations, as it was tough to visualize them the way they were read.
Any additional comments?
After listening, I am not convinced that Jason McCoy understood what he read. I have never had that impression of an audible narrator before. I am disappointed. May I have a credit back on my account? The content is good, but the reading is not of sufficient quality to charge money for it.
You don't have to post this, but I do hope you take it to heart.
