Louise Penny does it again.

I couldn't stop listening to this once I started so in between work and sleeping I finished it in 2 days. I don't want to give anything away but it brought me back to the beginning of this beautiful series and tugged at my heart in all the right ways. Can't wait for the next book.

Fabulous!

This book gets you under its spell immediately. I listened to it every possible chance I got. Anna draws the reader in so quickly and holds you on the edge of your seat through all the twists and turns of this story. It's been a long time since a book captivated me like this one. The characters are so richly complex and all their stories are so compelling. Eloise Oxer could not have been better with the narration. It was just fabulous and I hate that I'm through with it but I will listen to it again in the future.

None of them had ever met the elderly woman. The will is so odd and includes bequests that are so wildly unlikely that Gamache and the others suspect the woman must have been delusional.

Another beautiful story in the series

I have been a fan of this series since I first picked up Still Life and Ms. Penny drew me into Three Pines. I have never wanted to leave and wait eagerly for each new addition to this series. As one reviewer said, this sounds like an ending but I hope not. As for Robert Bathurst, after the initial adjustment to listening to him after Ralph Cosham, I find I enjoy his performance very much. Thank you Ms. Penny for another wonderful trip to Three Pines!

Would you consider the audio edition of A Great Reckoning to be better than the print version?
I haven't read the print version but I have always enjoyed listening to the audio version of this series. I was not sure I would like Robert Bathurst because he had such huge shoes to fill but he does a wonderful job.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Because I love these characters, anything that they say or do just seems to fascinate me. There were many moments when, because I listen as I drive, I drove the long route somewhere to make sure a particularly tense scene was resolved before I had to stop.
What does Robert Bathurst bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He's a delightful reader. I actually was surprised at how quickly I adjusted to his reading style. He brings the characters to life without question.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Absolutely. I forced myself not to listen in one sitting!
Any additional comments?
I have always loved Louise Penny's Inspector Gamache series from the very first page of Still Life. She creates such wonderful characters and always writes with such intellect, humor and compassion. This is absolutely my favorite detective series.

I understand the comparison between this story and Gone Girl. While I did not like Gone Girl, I absolutely enjoyed this book. I was hooked from the first and finished it in two days. The narrators were excellent and made the story come alive. I would recommend it to others and may read it again myself.
