intensity
Revisado: 07-11-25
Possible Spoilers:
Sala did a good job of writing a story with a strong sense of urgency & intensity. It holds even through the scenes with Annie.
Dodge and Wyrick are interesting characters. Dodge has a single mindedness and Wyrick a somewhat bizarre and quirky backstory. The story has some logic flaws but it’s done well enough that it’s engrossing.
Gold has a decent voice but I spent the whole beginning of the book thinking he sounds too young, especially relating to Dodge’s relationship with Annie.

series round up
Revisado: 07-11-25
Possible Spoilers:
Hannah Russell has been named guardian for 5 year old Noah, son of her friend Erin Waters, who has just passed away. This, just after breaking off her engagement because she caught her fiancée Wyatt cheating with her own assistant Stephanie.
She rents a house around the lake from Sullivan’s Crossing to spend her vacation with Noah so they can both adjust and grieve. But the owner, Owen Abrams is staying on the property, in the remodeled barn, because his photographic trip was canceled.Hannah is taken with Owen and his kindness. Noah is taken with Romeo, Owen’s Great Dane. Owen is taken with both Hannah and Noah, and is moved by their story and challenges. When conflict comes from Erin’s biological mother, Owen stands with the two of them. Helen and Sully are in from beginning to end. Included are Cal, Maggie & Elizabeth, along with Sierra & Connie, and Dr Leigh Culver & Rob Shandon.
Plummer amazes in her ability to clearly portray a 5 year old boy and two different mature 65 years old women.

series round up
Revisado: 07-10-25
Possible Spoilers:
Rob Shandon who owns Timberlake’s bar gets his own story with Dr Leigh Culver. Both make appearances in The Family Gathering. Rob is Sydney’s older brother who is a widower and the father of two teenage sons, Finn 17 & Sean 15.
I enjoyed the opening when Rob rushes his son Finn into the clinic with a bloody hand from broken glass and Dr Culver puts 14 stitches into it. The humor kicks in when Rob groans and has to slide down the wall to land on his butt without puking or passing out.
There’s a secondary story with Aunt Helen coming to stay with Leigh but spending most of her time with Sully. They really hit it off. Surprisingly, I didn’t note any lead in for the next book.
Plummer does a really decent job of narration.

reinventing himself
Revisado: 07-10-25
Possible Spoilers:
Dakota Jones tries to protect his men from death due to incompetence and gets a discharge, not honorable. He visits friends in Australia, then decides to stop in Colorado to visit with older brother Cal and younger sister Sierra. He offers to help out and ends up with a part-time county job and renting a home. Dakota has to fend off two women who give him negative vibes - Alyssa & Neeley - before he can start making inroads with bartender Sydney, the smart-aleck blonde.
Connie advises Sierra he’s certified as a foster parent and asks her to consider becoming one, since she previously told him her genetics made her decide not to have biological children. Sedona, the second oldest Jones with the managing ways, comes to attend their wedding. It’s the tip of the iceberg for symptoms when her evasions lead to the revelation of her separation from her family. Cal & Maggie convince Sedona to restart medical testing with Maggie’s supervision. A diagnosis of anxiety & OCD instead of schizophrenia brings such manic relief that Sedona checks out early with disastrous results.
Sierra & Connie’s first foster brings them Sam who they want to adopt. Before they can finalize, Sam’s grandmother panics and takes him back with the promise of help from a cousin. Sierra brings his toys & cookies to check on Sam’s progress with his grandmother and finds chaos. This turns into capitulation by Sam’s grandmother and authorization to bring him back home.
Meanwhile, Dakota goes to California to bring Dr Shandon, aka Sydney, home to Colorado.

reinventing herself
Revisado: 07-09-25
Possible Spoilers:
As Cal’s younger sister, I initially liked Sierra. Then her journaling exposed many ugly actions and an overall lack of character that was really distasteful. I grew up as the daughter and sister of alcoholics. I even had a stepfather who was an alcoholic. It’s a disease of the body and spirit. I don’t like how it’s being used as a plot device that doesn’t read as genuine.
Conrad aka Connie is a much more likable character. He’s a kind & decent character who can do better than Sierra on so many levels. She admits to being an alcoholic but the true ugliness is minimized in her telling. The author also left out logical action steps - primarily not making a bigger deal about Craig being seen in Denver and locally. The sheriff should have been notified, etc.
Plummer does a good job on the narration.

reinventing themselves
Revisado: 07-09-25
Possible Spoilers:
Maggie Sullivan, neurosurgeon, goes home to Sullivan’s Crossing to find peace from a miscarriage, a broken relationship, a malpractice lawsuit, a closed doctor’s office. The Crossing is an institution for hikers at the merge of the Continental Divide Trail and the Colorado Trail. It’s a family legacy run by Maggie’s father who’s a third generation’Sully’. No sooner does she arrive than her father has a heart attack.
Cal is a transient staying at Sullivan’s Crossing while trying to recover from years of supporting his dying wife and practicing criminal law. This, after a peripatetic childhood with a parent who has a mental illness. He’s become friends with Sully and the regulars.

I really liked the character of Blake Smiley, Iron Man. He pleasantness of demeanor with the character to make good choices and the strength of mind to stick to the good choices to succeed.
While I admired Lin Sue’s determination to take care of her child and do a good job, I heartily despised her hypocrisy in demanding no one lie to her while she was all about lies.
I thoroughly enjoyed Charlie.

reconciliation
Revisado: 07-08-25
Possible Spoilers:
Ginger Dysart attended the wedding of Peyton Lacoumette to Dr Scott Grant and had to fend off the advances of her brother Matt who was drunk. He comes to Thunder Point to apologize and charms Ginger. I was personally impressed with the emotional intelligence of their courtship and resolving their previous relationships. It’s the most emotionally mature relationship I’ve read about in a Robyn Carr book. My only regret is not being able to reconcile the maturity, strength & intelligence Ginger exhibits here vs her utter hopelessness when she arrived.
Meanwhile, the community regulars get together to help complete one of Cooper’s homes for Winnie to move into. Winnie is able to appreciate and revel in the feeling of community as residents stop by to say hello and check on her. It gives Winnie & Grace opportunities to reconcile, to make peace. Plus, the coming baby gives Winnie motivation to hang in there. Mikhail is staying with them on the top floor while Grace and Troy move into the lower level, freeing the mini loft for Ginger above the flower shop. We get the introduction of Nurse Sue and her son, Charlie, and their possible dire straits presaging the next book in the series.
Plummer delivers quality narration for the book and series.

strength in adversity
Revisado: 07-08-25
Possible Spoilers:
Wow - turns out flower shop girl Grace Dillon is actually Isabella Grace Dillon Banks known professionally as Izzy Banks when she was a medal winning ice skater.
Troy Headly is a popular high school teacher who loves his riskier sports. He’s still a little heart bruised from Iris McKinley marrying Seth Sileski but finds himself being attracted Grace. He appoints himself her Fun Coach.
Then a terror from Grace’s past comes back into her new life. Troy takes steps ending in hilarious results.
We get a nice cameo with Troy’s Marine Corps friend Denny and wife Becca from Virgin River.
There’s a poignant secondary story where Rae Ann Dysart, our local trashy dressing realtor shows her sweet & survivor sides when she helps her depressed niece Ginger who is deeply grieving the sudden death of her infant son. Major improvements for Ginger as she starts working for Grace at the flower shop and it sets up the next story.
Plummer’s narration, as always, excels.

We get a nice story of the new Thunder Point Deputy in Charge Seth Sileski who is someone worthy of replacing Mac. He sounds like someone I’d like to personally have as a friend or neighbor.
