Historia
Meet Harold Fry, recently retired. He lives in a small English village with his wife, Maureen, who seems irritated by almost everything he does, even down to how he butters his toast. Little differentiates one day from the next. Then one morning the mail arrives, and within the stack of quotidian minutiae is a letter addressed to Harold in a shaky scrawl from a woman he hasn’t seen or heard from in twenty years. Queenie Hennessy is in hospice and is writing to say goodbye.

Touching examination of repentance, forgiveness and love. Very British, very adorable. I found myself cringing, laughing, feeling sober and feeling relieved.

less detecting, more relating

This is a divergence from the previous books. there isn't a mystery. But the characters continue to charm and it is a sweet story.

a nice next step in the development of characters. and I enjoyed that this one was focused on the middle class and not the Knickerbockers.

Historia
Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

the voices are grating
Revisado: 01-11-20
great story, of course. it's fun to compare this to the movie to study the differences. the narrator is historically wonderful but here the voices he chose are horrible and grating. luckily, it's short as audiobooks go.

Better than most recent books regarding witches and demons. This books focuses less on the shocking mixing of ghouls and just on three witches in the late 1800s. Well narrated, a fun listen.

Entertaining but not original
Revisado: 06-26-19
A disappointing adult version of Harry Potter meets Twilight meets Outlander meets DiVinci Code. A good “in the background” listen but don’t expect a story you can’t put down/press stop on.
