Historia
It happens more than you might think. One second someone’s life is totally typical, the next it’s terribly tragic. Everything they had, everything they planned, everything they were, all of it vanishes in a flash. Shock and sorrow leave the victim staring into tomorrow’s void, wondering: How did it happen? Who did it? And why?

Interesting story full of twists and turns
Revisado: 12-24-24
Very interesting story that kept me engaged until the end. I thought it was written by an actual Federal Air Marshall but it wasn’t. The author had a horrendous life experience and he loosely translated some of his nightmare to this book. I enjoyed that it was set in the East Bay / Tri Valley area of Northern California, so lots of things were recognizable. I wasn’t fond of the narrator though; his accents were ridiculous.

Draws you into the experience
Revisado: 10-30-24
Highly recommend this deftly crafted book. She chronicles the lives of former farmers turned migrant pickers (due to the dust bowl and the depression) in ways you cannot forget. She also sheds light on the bravery of the union organizers and workers that risked everything, again and again. We ride on the shoulders of giants as none of us would have the freedom we do without their sacrifices.

It got worse as time went by
Revisado: 08-27-24
It was interesting at first, but halfway through I couldn’t listen anymore. I realized this woman was engaging when nobody else in their right mind would. So many of the supposed people emailing her were obviously fake, yet she kept engaging- she couldn’t stop herself. Ridiculous.

The murder of jazz musician and social activist Markus Peña doesn’t come as a surprise to his estranged sisters. Melinda and Emily Peña know their controversial brother had enemies. After all, even they hadn’t spoken to Markus since their mother’s funeral two years ago. Who killed Markus? Was it someone trying to keep his latest protest song from publication? Was it the powerful and secretive uncle of his ex-girlfriend Rebecca? Or was it one of the other women Markus had callously abandoned?

Terrible narration
Revisado: 06-02-24
I couldn’t get through 20 minutes. I stopped and started fresh three times in a month, thinking maybe I wasn’t in the mood. The storyline came off juvenile but the narration was truly horrible, amateurish and overly dramatic. I would’ve made the second return in the history of my membership if I hadn’t paid cash (returns only possible when using credits to purchase).

Interesting from start to finish
Revisado: 01-14-24
I loved all the details and data. I learned a ton about the sea, different sea vessels, and was mesmerized by the stories about folks and towns who live and breathe the dangerous fishing lifestyle. I rewound several portions to be sure I was getting the details right, which made this a winner. I was engaged all the way through.

By age thirty, Stephanie Foo was successful on paper: She had her dream job as an award-winning radio producer at This American Life and a loving boyfriend. But behind her office door, she was having panic attacks and sobbing at her desk every morning. After years of questioning what was wrong with herself, she was diagnosed with complex PTSD—a condition that occurs when trauma happens continuously, over the course of years.

Revisado: 11-15-23
I give Stephanie’s book a 10/10 and I was sad when it ended. I feel like I know her and wish I did. I loved her smart, sassy, laser-direct style and her willingness to live the examined life. Her survival strategies and experiences in the mental health arena felt so familiar. When people find ways to survive and then thrive after traumatic backgrounds it always feels good to see them heal and overcome it all. You go, girl!

Generic story & spotty narration
Revisado: 10-14-23
The story was pretty basic and uninteresting. I chose this because Taylor Schilling narrated. I like her acting but this narration seemed like she was reading this story for the first time, but out loud. She confused me with when she was supposed to be in character or not, because she frequently mixed up the voices she was using. Irritatingly, every 15 minutes or so her voice and volume changed completely. It is obvious they spliced together small segments of recording time.

So helpful!
Revisado: 08-20-23
I finally got Covid and am doing terribly 6 weeks out. Can’t work. Mist post viral Covid issues are identical to MCAS issues and histamine issues that I’ve explored and work on for helping my long term issues.
This podcast is inspiring and reminds me to hang in there. I am interested in how many ‘long haul’ Covid patients will be diagnosed with MCAS. My Docs have all been a disappointment but hopefully they’ll learn more about this now, because of Covid.

Highly recommend this series! I am fascinated by human behavior. The focus here is on the suspect as well as the other humans in the small village where this occurred. What makes a good witness? How does time change testimony? A wonderful exploration.

It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

I tried to stick with it
Revisado: 07-26-23
This is a boring read/listen and I really hate to say so. I have great sympathy for anyone born into the Royal family, but especially Harry & Wills. Harry has come a long way but lots of what he decided to included in his book didn’t sit well with me. I, as many other readers I’m sure, have had less then desirable relationships with our parents and siblings. But what stories we choose to tell publicly about those people tells a lot about ourselves. This book was sad because Harry seems stuck and comes across as petty. Lastly, most of the stories he has were just plain boring. The chapters were so short and meaningless that I’m only halfway through and at chapter 60 something. I can’t make myself finish it.
