Historia
In 1964, when Ned Parker, farmer and part-time constable, is summoned to a cornfield one hot morning to examine the remains of a tortured bird dog, he discovers that there is a dark presence in their quiet community of Center Springs, Texas. Ned is usually confident handling moonshiners, drunks, and instances of domestic dispute. But when it comes to animal atrocities—which then turn to murder—the investigation spins beyond his abilities.

Suspenseful from the start!
Revisado: 02-19-17
I would like to say that I don't care for hunting, and there was a lot in the book, but it was very true to the time and place. I've lived most of my life in Texas. The last 20 years, I've lived in a place a lot like the area where the story unfolded, so I understand the hunting from a food standpoint. There are still a lot of poor people in Texas who hunt to have adequate food. I would like to say that there were some pretty gruesome parts, but they were a part of the story and added to the suspense. The juxtaposition of the innocence of childhood and the stark reality of a serial killer on the loose made for hair-raising suspense. There was a balance of good and evil. The characters were authentic and deep. Of course, being the 60s in the south, there were racial tensions, realistic to that time, but skillfully handled. I really liked listening to it, and I have already put the additional Red River Mysteries on my wish list.

Mercedes Hildebrand Ware is a member beyond reproach...until her life begins to unravel. When her husband betrays her, steals her money, and runs off to places unknown, it's something Frede would prefer to keep under wraps. The last thing she needs is to become fodder for the JLWC gossip mill. And to make matters worse, there's only one person in town who stands a chance at helping her get revenge - Howard Grout, a tasteless, gold-chain-wearing lawyer who has bought his way into Frede's tony neighborhood.

Suprisingly Good!
Revisado: 01-03-17
I really enjoyed this book! I didn't think I would like a book about snooty, rich women, but I did. Frede was a great character, and a decent person inside. I know most people are multi-faceted, and it was a relief to see Frede become more real. It was nice to see her awaken from her society stupor and come to life. This is a great author. I will be reading all of her books. It was also a pleasure to hear Jenna Lamia again. I love listening to her!

Riveting!
Revisado: 01-27-13
This book was so engrossing, I couldn't stop listening! Sometimes I will fall asleep listening to a book. That didn't happen with this one. I couldn't even fall asleep when it was finished. I loved Hurwitz's characters, except for the ones I hated. The writing was excellent! It conveyed so much feeling of pathos and love and terror! I would love to read more from this author, but I don't know if my heart could stand it.
Scott Brick did a wonderful job reading the book! His portrayals were so convincing, and he was able to completely convey the emotions the author intended.

This book was magical, exciting, and "ineffably" sweet! It was very well written. The narrator made the characters come alive. I loved it!

Historia
On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Awesome Book!
Revisado: 05-21-12
I finished this wonderful book with many tears. Most of my favorite Stephen King books are from his earlier books. However, this is an awesome book! Not only is this a work of amazing science fiction/horror, it is a beautiful, tender love story. It was hard to pull myself away from it long enough to recharge my iPod. Stephen King, you rock! :)
The narrator did an excellent job portraying the different characters and conveying the terror and the sweetness in his voice!
Well done! Let's dance! :)

Historia
In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women—mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends—view one another. A deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don't.

It was like I was there!
Revisado: 03-18-12
I lived this book! I suffered and laughed and cried with the wonderfully developed characters. I was fearful for the people involved with the writing of the book in the story. I even had to stop listening for awhile, because I was afraid of what was coming. It was a relief to know that I'd had nothing to fear. This was a wonderful and amazing book! The readers did a superb job!
Thank you, Kathryn Stockett, for this book, and thank you for the glimpse into your own life at the end!

I loved this book!
Revisado: 01-16-12
This is an outstanding fantasy book! It is full of wonderful characters, adventure, and danger. I love books about magic and the supernatural, and this one fits the bill. I was riveted! The characters were very human and vulnerable but very courageous. I didn't want to stop listening. Victoria Laurie has written other great books, but this one is a classic.
Susan Duerden's portrayal of the characters is wonderful. She grabbed my attention and held it. I was amazed at her ability to create so many different voices.
The only complaint I have is that when I came back to Audible to look for the next book in the series, it wasn't here. Audible, please bring us Victoria's next book, The Curse of Deadman's Forest, and use Susan as the reader again! Thanks!
