Historia
"Are you one of us?" a patient once asked Marsha Linehan, the world-renowned psychologist who developed dialectical behavior therapy. "Because if you were, it would give all of us so much hope." Over the years, DBT had saved the lives of countless people fighting depression and suicidal thoughts, but Linehan had never revealed that her pioneering work was inspired by her own desperate struggles as a young woman. Only when she received this question did she finally decide to tell her story.

Amazing!
Revisado: 03-07-20
I love this book! Thank you Marsha for sharing yourself so authentically and opening up about how DBT got its roots. I do not care much for the narrator as she can come across as being a little robotic, however the memoir made up for that. As a new social worker, I also purchased the book in both hard copy and kindle to help with group therapy. I have also faced my own mental health challenges and I recall in my early recovery asking professionals what personal experience they had that would be beneficial for me. I was not interested in people helping me that just had a degree and book knowledge but I wanted help from others who had been where I was and knew first hand what would help me feel better. It completely makes sense that Marsha knew this would be evidenced based practice. She lived this! Thank you!!!

It's never too late to chase your dreams: Before she discovered running, Nita Sweeney was 49-years-old, chronically depressed, occasionally manic, and unable to jog for more than 60 seconds at a time. Using exercise, Nita discovered an inner strength she didn't know she possessed, and with the help of her canine companion, she found herself on the way to completing her first marathon. In her memoir, Sweeney shares how she overcame emotional and physical challenges to finish the race and come back from the brink.

Inspiring story, narrator was uninspiring
Revisado: 01-31-20
While this story was inspiring and motivated me to start my own running program, the narrator was difficult to listen to. I wish she had a little more excitement in her style. I did however sign up our family for a 5k in a couple months. I also set a goal to run a half when I turn 50. I ran a half when I was 40. I don’t want the 26.2 sticker. I’ve always coveted the 13.1 sticker 😜

Unexpected enjoyment!
Revisado: 10-24-19
I am a Democrat and very liberal. Another friend that shares the same political views as I do recommended this book and I was not disappointed. What I did not expect was to find that Barbara Bush had similar views as I do and was more progressive than I ever expected. There were times when I disagreed on the stance she took but the book was excellent on helping me understand why she took that stance. Overall this book was excellent at sharing Barbara’s story and the impact she made on the world. I’m glad I listened to this audiobook.

Historia
50 Great Myths of Popular Psychology uses popular myths as a vehicle for helping students and laypersons to distinguish science from pseudoscience. It also explores topics that listeners will relate to, but often misunderstand, such as "opposites attract", "people use only 10% of their brains", and "handwriting reveals your personality", and provides a "mythbusting kit" for evaluating folk psychology claims in everyday life.

Don’t believe everything you hear/read
Revisado: 09-30-19
While there are some facts/myths I agree with in this there are some that I completely disagree with. I had to read a few of these “myths” in a graduate social work course I am taking and decided to listen to the whole book since it triggered such a strong reaction for me. The narrator also spoke so fast in many parts and I was not the only person that thought so. In other parts the narrator spoke at a normal pace. I thought that maybe I accidentally had the book playing on a fast pace. I’m sure there will be more editions of this text book so in the future editions please narrate at a normal pace.

Loved every minute of this book!
Revisado: 09-06-19
I love Trevor’s story telling style and have been enjoying his comedy for some time. I am glad I listened to this book. The comedy, tragedy, drama, and culture is shared in a way that I could envision it all! As an American I still struggle with understanding exactly what a “Colored person” is since I also listened to Nelson Mandela’s book but Trevor helped me with this understanding. As a Jewish woman I particularly enjoyed the chapter on hitler! Keep being the humanitarian that you are Trevor!

Revisado: 07-02-19
A year ago I got a tattoo on my arm that says “i am enough.” I wonder why this message is one thing that many women feel is not true and we struggle with this? I love the performance of this book and especially liked the addition with Mr and Mrs Welteroth at the end. I also purchased this book for my daughter - a biracial young woman that just graduated from college. As a current graduate student myself I felt inspired by Elaine’s story and her words. Thank you for your eloquence! I celebrate you and every person that is working to be enough and claim space in this world!

Historia
Born in the Old City of Sana’a, Yemen, to a pair of middle-class doctors, Mohammed Al Samawi was a devout Muslim raised to think of Christians and Jews as his enemy. But when Mohammed was 23, he secretly received a copy of the Bible, and what he read cast doubt on everything he’d previously believed. After connecting with Jews and Christians on social media, and at various international interfaith conferences, Mohammed became an activist, making it his mission to promote dialogue and cooperation in Yemen. Then came the death threats....

Difficult to follow some of the stories but entertaining
Revisado: 04-24-19
I did not realize these were short stories until after I purchased the book. My favorite chapter and the one that I will likely return to often is chapter 2. I am a group leader in a behavioral health hospital and that chapter had rolling with laughter! I would love more of chapter 2 please! All the performances were excellent!
