I LOVE this book so much! I'll never listen to black American music the same way again. Or take it for granted. So beautifully written. Keep a box of tissues at hand; I shed tears for the young Danyel and the artists she wrote about. I'm so glad Ms. Smith wrote this. Keep writing!!!

It was alright.

If a Wrinkle in Time and The Shack had a kid, it would be this book. There are so many similarities between the three stories, it was hard not to think of comparisons while listening to it. Well written but I felt like it was a story already told.
