Wonderful story and the reader did a fabulous fantastic job. The story keeps the interest of the reader. Elle Stanley Gardener writes well and keeps you in suspense. Perry Mason is the gold standard. No matter how many I read I’m still amazed at the different characters and events that Perry Mason must solve.

I knew Perry Mason lived on the edge of the law, but never went overboard. This one had me guessing at every clue. I knew Perry Mason was not guilty of any wrongdoing. Perry Mason lives for truth. I wasn’t sure that he was going to come out clean when this case was finished. I wasn’t sure if they would ever find the stuttering bishop again. I was on the edge of my seat listening as best I could wondering how this case was going to end.

I love the writing of this story by Mr. Gardener, and I love the voice of our narrator or reader. He puts the right inflection on the right words. Fabulous story and fabulous work.

Loved every minute of it. Unfortunately, I read these out of order. I read books 2 and 3 first. Then I realized that A curious Beginning was the first one in the series. Still I was mesmerized by the story and followed along with every word. I knew who her father was but it didn’t spoil listening to this book. Deanna Rayburn wove an exciting tale that kept me wondering if Miss Speedwell and Stoker were going to live and how they became involved with each other.

Our narrator did a splendid job of reading the words of this story. For she not only read us this tale with excellent pronunciations, she gave us different voices for other characters. She made this story exciting. Her voice is excellent. I really like the slight British accent.

When I began the story, I wasn’t sure I was going to like it. The reason is it is British and so many intriguing characters and an interesting plot. This time we knew there was a murdered man and the person caught for that crime was innocent or guilty. The story was excellent and at first it was cumbersome trying to remember every character, and to learn some British English words which was part of the problem. Once the reader began to understand those words and the way they were used the story became quite interesting and kept the interest. I enjoyed the narrator to the end.

As a fan of the TV show Perry Mason, I’ve been listening to the books by Erle Stanley Gardner. I wanted to compare the show with the original writer and person who created our Perry Mason. The story is much better than the show, but both are equal in the concept of lawyer Perry Mason. Yet, as I listen I see Raymond Burr as Perry Mason. That may be unfair. Erle Stanley Gardner has captured the essence of what a criminal lawyer goes through in order to find truth. The reader was excellent at portraying all the individuals in this novel. I’m glad I’m listening. I could read them but listening is fun.

I have been a fan of the Raymond Burr Perry Mason TV show. I wanted to experience Perry Mason from Earle Stanley Gardener’s perspective as he wrote the books. I thoroughly enjoyed experiencing the cleverness of Gardener’s Mason.

We knew the lady was trouble as soon as she walked into Mason’s office. We knew because Della Street warned us. She has good instincts. Velvet claws is the perfect title for this book. We find out just how towards the end.

I was not disappointed in this novel. I now understood why so many people kept checking out these old books from our public library. Knowing that Earle Stanley Gardner was a lawyer himself, made the book a little more interesting. Even though the characters and plots are set in a decade of yesteryear the human side of this story grabs you and sucks you into the book so as you don’t want to put it down or stop listening.

The reader did an excellent job of voicing our characters. I enjoyed every minute of it. Sometimes I’d be listening at night and I had to back it up because I missed something important. It is a great did she do it or did someone else? I won’t tell you’ll just have to sink your brain and ears into the story.
